TOT ADSL

Post by Funman » July 19, 2010, 6:54 am

I live in Romyen 3 village and during the last 10+ days or so I've had a lot of problems with my TOT ADSL like the connection timing out and "cannot find server". Has anyone else experienced this problem? At times (frequently) I've had to switch from website to website and then go back to the original just to complete my E-mail Etc. As in Hotmail to UM and back to Hotmail and then to Yahoo and so on. I've also had problems with the interface between Firefox and MSN (Hotmail) but that's another kettle of fish.

I have had ToT ADSL now for about 3 years (in Ban Dung). At first it was pretty ordinary in terms of reliability and performance, but has now developed to the stage where I can be confident of being connected 95+% of the time.

Having no problems at the moment, but from time to time there may be a day or 2 when service is erratic.

747man...i don't know where you live, but for me TTT, now BBB has been the best...When i moved here 5 and 1/2 years ago TOT was the only thing available here...I had constant problems and outages lasting for up to a week or two at a time...For the past year and a half with TTT/BBB, all that has changed...I have had maybe 5 or 6 outages which have all been corrected within an hour or two with one phone call to their call center and they actually called me back each time to see if things were restored...TOT didn't even know i was around until it came time to pay my bill.

I have been with TOT for 5 years. I have found them to be probably the worst company I have ever dealt with (government owned). However I have noted that some people have been quite happy with them.
Last week my neighbour was connected to the internet via TOT. 590 baht per month for up to 4M.
I was paying 690baht for 3M. Went to the office to enquire why? A promotion they said. OK I upgraded from 3 to 4 saving 100 baht per month.
Having said all of this :D the service has improved over the past few months

I use to live there also, years now, always had a problem with TOT, especially on late Friday's and would lose connection over the weekends. Never called for I figured they were closed, (maybe wrong, for I have called TT&T on weekends). I did find that they would send someone out to check on things, and everything would be fine for a few weeks.

Now I have TT&T for years now and never had a problem from day one, then they switched from Max to 3 B and after they ran a new line, (no longer thru telephone line), it sucks big time. They advertise 4mb and before I had 3mb, my old 3 makes their 4 look like .5 :(

Don't know why I bothered the 4M speed is often slower than my 3M

I'm out in Phen, but in moving to my new house, I had ADSL TOT installed. It cost 4,000? baht to have the line connected from out on the main road. But, touch wood, it seems fine, paying 590 baht a month, but I'm only a basis user. I have recently set up Skype, which is working well and my wife is able to see as well as talk to German-based sister. Fun!
I was paying over 2,000 baht per month for IP Star in my former rented place across the way, so my installation costs are quickly recovered.
Incidentally, in spite of several reminders, TOT have still not collected the large dish from the old, now vacant place. Better come soon, else I fear it might be, um, 'recycled' locally.

We've got 3bb here in Maliwan Villa and it comes and goes, every day. Sometimes slows to a crawl. The last several weeks have been the worse. It finally quit altogether last week and after several phone calls we got an english speaking lady that was able to walk me through reseting the modem. Still comes and goes. To add to my pleasure I now get a slow down then stopage then 3bb tells me my account is in arrears or is fixing to be when it isn't. If there was any real alternitive I would have changed, but it is six of one - half dozen of another. I do want to change to their 10Mb plan, although they don't want me to. I understand that since the new portal opened several months ago that 10Mb download is possible international now, although 3bb says no. I hated Time Warner, but I sure miss Roadrunner.

Hi,
Sgt. In just over 5 year in Maliwan Villa I have had no trouble whatsoever, with TOT, up until the time, this year, when they change over to 3MM or whatever they called it. Tuesday this week it went off, no warning at all. On doing a connection check was told everything at home was in working order and I should check with my internet supplier. Which I did. They informed me that I had not paid for Jan. internet, with tax, 631.30B. Looked at my bills and could not find Jan., maybe I had forgot to pay it. But why wait so long, and the Feb. bill said total amount due 631.30B. I thought it should read double this if I had missed Jan. payment. They said no. They give me no warning, in writing, by phone or by the internet. Been down this morning to pay and said to them, I have been cut off by your firm now for over three days so can I have this deducted from my bill. They did not know what to do. I asked them for the address of their head office in BKK. and was told they did not know.TIT. But they had the phone number of their service center. HELP. Will get the address from the internet and write them a letter telling them what I think of the service in Udon and their customer relations skills.
The internet people have had a 3 bedroom house in Maliwan Villa for many a year. Now It is up for sale. About seven of them used to live there. With all their vans taking up a lot of space in roadway.
I know I should know the Thai ways by now but was in the middle of booking a flight home, which now I have to do all over again and hope I can get the same flights, and prices.
Rant over.

Nice soapbox rant Doug. Last Tue, I got up at 5am and my internet was non existent. Left home at 9, went to TOT with my modem (noticed it had been slow) they checked it and found it to be NFG. But, it took them a while on their computer to sort things out. Now all is pretty much OK. The last time I had a problem it was widespread. Steve at Big City gym, my next door neighbor and another friend that lives across the tracks on the road to NK was having the same problem too (10+ days). So I went to TOT on a Mon, waited for the boss and number 2 to come drifting in (10:30) and proceeded to chew a**! This was after I explained the problem and was told "it's a server problem". Hey I said, do I f***ing pay you? Then it's your problem. Had people coming out of offices to see what was going on but the problem was resolved post haste. :D That's why my original post. Don't like to do that but when in a corner............?
Had that with Verizon in Ca. too, "it's PACBELLS line" yada yada yada. Just told them I'd start paying PACBELL then. Dirty phone lines.
PS: Set up a bank account with Siam Commercial to pay directly, all utility bills. Works for them and me, no drama either! Suggest you do the same. Very easy and I did it by myself and I don't speak Thai and no TW of gf.

Imagine our surprise when, several years ago, suddenly our power was off, only to find a man on a motorcycle riding away with our electric meter! It's a much longer story, but the gist of it is, we didn't pay our electric bill in Feb. We paid the guy who collects on the motorcycle in March. We paid him again in April. Our meter was removed in late April for the delinquint Feb bill. No warning, no phone call. No nothing! Cost 160 baht to have it reinstalled.....but ended up without power for a full day....not to mention some frayed nerves.

I have come to realize that no matter who you get your ADSL service from in Udon Thani, that it isn't worth the money, but unfortunately we have no choice...For 4 and a half years I suffered with continuous outages and extremely slow transfer rates with TOT...Then TTT came to my neighborhood and I had smooth uninterupted high speed sailing sailing...Then they sold out to Triple BBB or whatever and it is the second coming of TOT here lately...After a week of solid outages and extremely slow transfer speed, they sent two "technicians " to my home to check it out...I showed them my problem and they proceeded to make sure everything was plugged in correctly...Having found this to be AOK, they made a phone call and then announced that they didn't know how to fix the problem and turned the call back over to BBB...It has been three days now and after at least 20 phone calls with bulls**t answers I am still having troubles...Maybe all of us using BBB should pull a RED SHIRT rally at their main office and demand things get fixed or charge us in direct proportion to the service we get, which in my case is barely worth 100 Baht/month.

Have had 3B for over a month now in Ban Luem. I never cut the modem off. In that time only once have I lost my internet connection. I cut power to the modem and after a restart the connection was restored. The upload/download speeds have been fine for surfing and email. Very happy (so far) with 3B.

I *think* the area of town plays a big part in the quality of the internet connection. In the areas that have had internet service for a number of years perhaps the lines/hardware are failing? Is it possible the equipment used has gotten better and they are reluctant to change out the old? Or, if there are too many people on an area 'hub' is this bringing down the quality of service?

I don't know why 3B is failing in some areas but (fingers crossed) so far so good for us in Ban Luem. Hope you guys can get your internet sorted out soon.

I also live in the Ban Luem area. The main problem I have now since the line changed and now 3B is in watching videos, sometimes its fine, most times it is not. Other wise just going to web sites is fine, maybe slow. For some reason 6,7,8 AM videos work fine, just like before, otherwise forget it.

Few months back was talking about this at Harry's Bar, before 3B I think. Everyone said why bother to upgrade, for you will still have the same problems, slow. Don't think anyone had the 10MB plan. And thats when mine was working fairly good all day long, and I have the cheapest plan.

Hi,
Just heard today that the Thai lady across from the wife's sister, had her internet cut off, same firm, no call, letter or e-mail. On going down to see them they said she had not paid for four months. She could only find two of the receipts that covered these four months. So my advice to anyone that deals with this great and experienced company, Please keep your receipts for two years.
For the first four year or so the service was great. From TOT, but it started to go downhill a couple of months ago. Dropping out, slow and sometimes not being able to log on. This was my findings.

The story of even getting our internet is one of head banging, hair pulling frustration. It took a call from Maliwan, after which the same gal that wouldn't give us the time of day couldn't do enough to get things started, came to meet us at the Maliwan office. Had lineman etc asap. No internet for another 3 weeks uuuuurrrrgggghhhhh. The problem was a mis-wired phone connection, everything fixed and running in less than 30 minutes when they finally sent somebody that knew his ass from a hole in the ground. The internet still goes down several times a day, slows to a crawl, better make that low crawl, it already is at a crawl, but it hasn't been shut down for hours and hours/day like last week. I frequently loose either hotmail server or messenger, usually both at same time but not always. Running the troubleshoot sometimes restores the service, leading me to believe that I may have a faulty modem. BTW the lady that helped me over the phone also mentioned the location is part of the problem, and she did so rather hesitantly. I'm not sure if she meant Udon generally, where I am at or maybe the Udon personnel.

As to the 10Mb service. I have read from several people that the 10Mb service does indeed deliver. They have posted the speed test and it was just under 10, domestic and international. They didn't live in Udon, so it's still a gamble.

I did see the 3bb pay on line and will probably use that in hopes of avoiding the "missing bill", we've already had that trick here but didn't get cut off.
