I think Irish Alan might be Irish.

Nice bloke, but if you want to contact him you have to go on the other forum. Of course I can't guarantee he'll want to meet you. :D

Dermot I understand you have to post a certain number of times (not sure how many - MODS?) before you can access the PM function.

Probably a system to counter potential spammers.

Oy!! why only the Irish, I thought all us celts were best of mates, George is still about (fiddlers Green) seen him hanging out at the Book house lately.

Listen if you're Irish and considering moving to Udon, it doesn't matter if you find lots of Irish or none at all, you will love it either way, never met an Irish ###### yet, and always open, friendly and up for some banter. The expat community that I know in Udon is brilliant, and I highly recommend it - PS do you like a good pub quiz??

Hi Glyn,

Yes i love a good pub quiz! I was just curious about any Irish there......nothing against any of my celtic brothers out there! Hahahahahaha. Im nervous obviously about coming over as Im only 39 and have to have some sort of a business that will bring in some cash. I have a few ideas but they dont help me stop being nervous!

Ive been to udon a few times and been in Thailand about 20 times. Love it! Whats left of the Irish summer is just about over and the thought of doing another winter here and the lovely girlfriend of course is spurring me on to make some changes.....

Dermot, I moved here when I was 35 and we had an 18month old daughter in tow, but still never looked back, I did regret being tied into a project in Pattaya that took way too long to complete, ended up a prisoner there for 4yrs, now there is a mistake I think many make, though you can love Pattaya for your 2wk hols, it's not a place to settle with your family, Udon however is very laid back, far more of an organised city than the likes of Pattaya, 4yrs now and loving it, try not to listen to the negative stuff you hear on the forum, just ask yourself the grass must be greener or they'd pi$$ off home wouldn't they? Truth is some people will never be happy where ever they are. 39 is actually near my average age for my customer base (long-termers & tourists), so you'll find plenty of like-minded people and your days will soon be filled with things to do, you'll actually wonder where you would find 40hrs in a week to go back to work. Watch for the 18month blues, apparently it's a wall where so many hit, and they find themselves missing home, jump over the wall and it's all rosy again.

Dermot C,
I've bumped into a few Irish people in Udon, more usually in or around the Fiddlers' Green bar, and always got on well with them. As Glyn said, you don't need to worry about seeking out other Irish people, most ex pats in Udon get on well with each other when meeting "in the flesh", regardless of nationality. It's only on forums where people post from behind keyboards that you may come across a few prejudices, more often than not tongue-in-cheek, though I've seen none involving Irish people I might add. ;)

Whatever you decide to do (or not do) in Udon, just take it slowly. ;)

By the way, welcome to the Forum. :D

Hi' Dermot, I have the "Orange Moon" I recently renamed it THE CLAREMAN.
Where you from in the ould country? There's a few Irish here in Udon and the surrounding area.
George of Fiddlers Green is still here but has closed his bar for the last 3 months ,
He has changed it into a knicker shop.

Same road as Irish Clock, opposite side of the road from the Clock & about 100 metres up the road from it going in the opposite direction of Day & Night & Top Mansion.. I think the name has actually been changed to The Clareman now.
