Just broken up with 'gf', Udon, here I come!
Been coming here for about a year, 5 times already. My 'gf' just broke it to me that she has chosen her mum over me, ie stay in Udon Thani. I am not in a position to retire there yet and am not living apart from someone. I'll miss her son more than her.
Mai bpen rai, it will give me the chance to explore the aspects of Udon that I have previously only thought about. Buggered if I am wasting my tickets. I'll be booking to stay at the Irish Clock, I hope. Hope someone can give me an idea for a taxi, I know there is stuff about it here, but a poke in the right direction ( I mean taxi airport-The Clock).
Looking forward to meeting some of you guys, though it may just be a one-off unless some hot little Udon girl takes my fancy and vice versa.
Cheers guys.

by the exit door at the airport, take a minivan to your hotel, about 80 baht

At the moment it makes no sense/could be misinterpreted in so many ways!

Re: Just broken up with 'gf', Udon, here I come!
Took one, thought, not sure how it could be misinterpreted in any way.
Had booked flights to Udon to see my GF.
I can't live there
She can't live with me-her mum wants her.
I can now explore the parts of Udon I couldn't when she was in tow.
Might meet some ex pats, might meet them again if I hook upp with some Udon hottie
Might not if a bird from Phuket comes on the scene.
I want to stay at the Irish Clock.
I need a taxi service "but a poke in the right direction ( I mean taxi airport-The Clock)."
Not sure what could be misinterpreted there.

Re: Just broken up with 'gf', Udon, here I come!
Ting Tong is correct that the easiest way to get anywhere in Udon having arrived at the airport is the mini-bus ticket scheme available just before you exit the terminal. It does a bit of a 'round' of Udon as (as far as I gather) it does not have much of a set route so you need to know where you are going,
The more expensive (& larger) hotels have their own personal & liveried mini-buses to take patrons to them. I understand that some of them actually charge for that transport now, but as my days of staying in the most expensive hotels are over I cannot confirm..
There is also a "dial " taxi service but that means you have to dial them once you land in BKK if you want them waiting for you at the Udon airport,
The Clock does not have many rooms &, as far as I understand you cannot book on line with them at the moment, so you will need to PM chedd44 (who runs the Clock) to get him to confirm he has a room.
If you are coming shortly then I would advise that you are confirmed where you are staying before you land in Udon - especially if you are on the evening flights. The hotels are quite busy at the moment...

Had booked flights to Udon to see my GF. Are fights booked or not?
I can't live there - Eh?
She can't live with me-her mum wants her. Paedophilia/lesbianism, what?
I can now explore the parts of Udon I couldn't when she was in tow. - The mind boggles!
Might meet some ex pats, might meet them again if I hook upp with some Udon hottie I would have thought that meeting up again would have been the LAST thing on your mind IF you actually had a ticket!
Might not if a bird from Phuket comes on the scene. Dreamer!
I want to stay at the Irish Clock. The internet is a wonderful way to see/check if they would wish to accomodate you.

I think you need to take a look at yourself pal because you are seriously not on this plane of existence.
You have either a serious axe to grind or a nutter, either way I will be ignoring you and hope I don't meet you in Udon.
Cheerio.

Had booked flights to Udon to see my GF. Was she originally from here? I take it Phuket then?
I can't live there. Why?
She can't live with me-her mum wants her. So your not willing to pay?
I can now explore the parts of Udon I couldn't when she was in tow. Girly bars?
Might meet some ex pats, might meet them again if I hook upp with some Udon hottie
Might not if a bird from Phuket comes on the scene. Lost me!

cheers mate, I'll give it a go.
Re: Just broken up with 'gf', Udon, here I come!
So your coming up with your girlfriend but going separate ways?? She'll find you and if your with another lady could be Big Trouble in Irish Clock, or wherever her and her family find you.
They are normally at the airport at least two guys touting for business in a taxi, cost 200 baht to Irish Clock.
Good Luck
Need any other info post back.

Maybe, face to face, you are a nice guy.rogerdoger wrote:I think you need to take a look at yourself pal because you are seriously not on this plane of existence.

On this thread, though, you just come across as being thick!
I hope that we DO meet in Udon and we can have a laugh and a beer, which will prove I am wrong.

Not on this forum. You will have to wait, dick in hand, to understand.
Re: Just broken up with 'gf', Udon, here I come!
from my experience Rodger, most thai women will put their family first, it comes from a lifetime of the daughter growing up and having to support the family with her finances, and efforts..I have been where you are, and my ego/ manhood or whatever, took it all wrong. I was expecting a thai girl to think and reason like a western girl, I didnt realize until a year or two later that that is an impossible for a thai woman to do..
the family is the center of their universe, they might go live in Bangkok, but only to work so as to provide for the family..sounds like your ex is one of the oldest kids in the family, which automatically gives her responsiblities, and sounds like her papa is no longer around..Can I ask how did you see her mama surviving if your ex was to go away with you ??..there is no old age pension, unemployment dole or anything like that in thailand, unless you are a retired army general..
your ex didnt leave you for another man as such, or even say she didnt love you from what I can gather from your thread, she just could not go away and leave her mother. Heck i am 57yrs of age, and I cannot just go and leave my dying parents either, even though I have a ex beauty queen waiting for me in thailand..to put a person in a positon where they have to choose, them or me, well half the time you will come up empty handed...The next thai lady you meet probably will say the same to you, will probably choose family ahead of you..they all want you to take care of them and thier family..
also alot of thai dont travel well in my opinion..you take them away from family and there country put them in a strange environment where no one speaks thai, the culture is totally different, there are no thai friends around, and alot cant handle it..now Filapino's women are a different kettle of fish altogether and can handle that change, relish in it....
I hope you do well Rodger, but with only one year and 5 trips under your belt, you have hardly scratched the surface to understanding thai culture and thai family responsibility..anyway good luck, its all a learning curve....
the mature balding security guard outside the arrivals lounge will help you on arrival..he speaks english, and jacks up the white van to the left of the exit, if you get stuck...

5 times to Udon, about 20 to Thailand.maaka wrote:from my experience Rodger, most thai women will put their family first, it comes from a lifetime of the daughter growing up and having to support the family with her finances, and efforts..I have been where you are, and my ego/ manhood or whatever, took it all wrong. Yes, oldest child, father dead. Mother has a decent income from 8 rooms she rents out and owns 2 properties. It was always going to be the family versus me, and I was always going to lose, which is why I tried to make compromises and show myself to be a good prospective son in law. However when it came to it, family won. I suppose it's nice she didn't ---- me off for another man, or woman, well, she did I suppose, but for her mother.
Mai bpen rai as they say.
I am seriously pissed off with Thai women, but I'll maybe give it one more go, and waste more of my money and life, then like you say go for a flipper,or just ***** myself to death.

Hi,
maaKa. I thought there was a form of O.A.P. in LOS. When the wife's papa had to stay with us a year ago, the wife had to collect his money, each month. It was not much, about 500B. He's 76. Wife said it was his old age pension, when I asked.
But doesn't the rest of the family chip in. In the wifes fam. there are 3 daughters and 4 sons. They all chip in what they can afford. He live's free in the wifes home in Korat now. Won't sleep on the beds though, prefers the floor. Enjoys life to the full.
A bit different to our way. Asked my daughter to do something for me, she wanted me to send her the money first.
