In the States a Glock 19 goes for around $450.00 depending on where you purchase it. In Thailand it is my understanding the price is almost double that. You may find a deal at a police supply store, I only know the location of the one in Chiang Mai. You will have to look up the location of one for Udon.

dclblues,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the Glock is an excellent firearm,,,,,,,, but,, if your wife has normal female hands, they will be on the small side. A Glock with high capacity, double-stack mag in the grip (14 rounds, etc) will be much too large for her, and maybe you. Advise leaning toward a single-stack Glock or other smaller pistol. Actually a semi-auto is a poor choice for most women of normal strength and definitely not for the novice shooter in an emergency situation. Advise a double action revolver in .38 Special capable of shooting +P ammo. Also recommend a stainless steel version for the southeast asia weather/environment. Just my humble opinion,,,,,,,,cheers LL.

If your in the market to shop around you might want to handle a few of the XD and XDm pistols from Springfield. They are good, solid guns with a great reputation... However, you may have to pay double the price than in the States. However, it depends if you buy from a dealer in Thailand or direct with all the paperwork.

a 38 is a big piece for a little lady, weighs abit too, but I guess you might be having a play with it no doubt..not sure why you want so many rounds..is it just for home, or is she going to get a licence to carry it downtown as well ? pistols are prone to jamming after abit of wear and tear, revolvers arent..if the weapon is for the wife then a 6 shot 32 S&W revolver with hollow points, might be a better choice for waving around the house, but you say you have no choice..well I would shop around. buying a handgun is like buying a guitar, it has to fit the job and location you want to use it in, has to feel right in your hand, and is not to heavy..

Hopefully she will get some training, because things can go wrong for the novice if under attack. The mind can be racing, hands a shaking, oops safety still on....21 inch pump action shotgun does a real nice job, hard to miss a barn door with one of those..just remember to always fire a shot into the ceiling afterwards, so you can say you did fire a warning shot...there was a thai bloke on ebay selling. There is a small shop in Udon almost opposite the main police station, not quite sure if he is some business for tourists that want to go hunting, or what, and also a member here had family who were in the firearms business, and he did offer assistance to fellow members like yourself, but I think he is down in Korat...

Something is very wrong here... Have I got this right...? Your wife is applying for a gun license... but the gun is for both of you...?? Firstly is your wife in Law enforcement... if so her fellow officers are the ones that should be advising her... if not why does she want a gun...?
Next are you getting your wife to apply for a gun license so you can get her to buy a gun for you...?? This is very wrong... I don’t know why anyone hasn’t comment on this before... I am not sure on the gun laws here but know a falang can not own a gun... I can see so many pit falls... if the gun is for "home protection"... and it was you that shot a burglar you would be knee deep in “do-do”... do yourself a favor... forget all about guns... they are bad news.
Anyways we all know Thai woman can be fiery at times…. Do you really want your misses to own a gun… what happens if she catches you “playing away”… you better be a good husband that’s all I can say…

Must agree with Makka on this one. A Glock is a fine Weapon made mostly of Plastic and has real hitting power. However, these Guns are really designed for the Professional eg: Police and Military, so in my opinion a revolver is a much better option, with less maintenance required. Just my two cents worth. By the way, a mate at work just bought a Glock 15, he payed A$ 1200.00 !!

dclblues...

Smith & Wesson makes a "lady smith" .38 spl she should look at, also check out the little hammerless Smiths, nothing to catch on the corner of her purse when she pulls it out.

The Keltec .380 pistol is also suitable http://www.gunblast.com/KelTec_P3AT.htm

Just my opinion,

No need to protect yourself with a gun in Udon pretending it is for the use of your wife....Udon is one of the safest places to live in the world still...

Or maybe you have been a naughty boy and feel you need a little security now..... [-X

Owning a gun here in Thailand is crazy, but you are not the owner your wife is :? You shoot someone, your in the ---- big time. The laws are stacked against you here, this is NOT THE STATES .
As you know nothing about guns, you are not aware of the consequences of them. Most Police officers in the States are shot with their own weapon, these are highly trained people,I hate to think of what could happen when a gun is in a untrained persons hand.
Think of something else and get this silly idea out of your head. Guns are for professionals only .

I have been using Glocks since 1985 and have never been let down by any of them I've owned or been issued. If your set on having a Glock and what your looking for is really for your wife, I would suggest the GLOCK 28, it is a .380. Small in dimensions and weight, it is great in performance when carried concealed.
Because of the low-recoil firing characteristic of the .380 cartridge, it can be easily and accurately controlled. The standard magazine capacity of this balanced pistol of 10 rounds. I used to have a 28 as a back up weapon kept in an ankle holster.
Someone posted that a friend had purchased a Glock 15. Just so you know there is no such thing as a Glock 15 he may have been referring to the magazine capacity as being 15 rounds. In that case it would have been a Glock 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 31 or a 35.
My final input would be that in many cases having a handgun in your possession normally only increases that chance that you will end up shot. Maybe even by your own handgun.

When I was in the States I had a California Hand Gun Safety Certificate as it was one of the registration requirements when I bought a small S&W model 637 for personal protection.

In Thailand about three years ago I asked a policeman about owning and registering a gun in Thailand. It was a casual, informal inquiry at my home in Udon Thani. He told me that I could own a gun in Thailand. However, I was surprised to hear his recommendation that I should not register the gun! His reason was that the police would contact me if and when a crime (using a gun) is committed in an area within the proximity of my home. He further explained that, since the police know that I have a gun (via registration record), the police will come and take my gun away for inspection and they will keep it until the crime is solved for however long. Personally, if this is the case, I think it is a bit disturbing considering if my personal property will be confiscated while I have absolutely nothing to do with it!!??

Anyhow, I don’t know whether this is a common practice by Thai police? I would want to hear more from someone with knowledge in this regard. Thanks and Cheers.

Is Charlton Heston a member of UM?

He is absolutely the only man (besides Denny Crane) I would listen to when it comes to intelligent input on gun ownership, be it in the US, or Thailand.

Unless of course, I heard something from the Mexican authorities, who have come to the conclusion that the drug cartels in Mexico have been, in essence, armed via permissive guns laws in the US.

I really don't know which way to think. :-k

What is with the liberal fixation for government to control all aspects of peoples lives? If you never have owned or considered owning a firearm,,,,,,,,, fine,,,, that's your choice, ,,,, how would you like it if society or people with opposing views mandated you HAD to own and maintain a firearm? You're Australian so do what you want,,, Americans don't care. Why can't people live and let live without passing judgemet,,, whether it's about gun ownership or wearing socks with sandels?

Socks and sandals are without doubt, very offensive in some minds. But to date (as far as I am aware) no-one has died from observing same.

LoongLee,
There is no fixation with government to control peoples lives. If you own a gun for hunting,or sports reasons ,I have no problem with that, but why own a pistol,is not for that purpose.
Why a guy carries a gun,or a woman has 1 in her hand bag ,is beyond me.
Maybe I'm lucky I grew up in OZ,not the US.
I live in Australia at the moment, but intend moving to Udon in the near future,if it gets to the stage where I think I need a gun to protect myself,my family ,or my property,it will be time forme to find elswhere to live

JackS,,,,,,Thanks for catching my spelling ,,, duh,,,, sandals vs sandels

My point is,,,, why is it people seem to relish coming on forums and spewing forth negative opinions about all aspects of the U.S.?,,,,,,,, politics, justice, guns, abortion, economics, entertainment, foreign policy, etc, etc,

Maybe I'm overly sensitive but I just don't see that regarding other countries,,,,,,except the numerous comments about Thailand, a country they freely choose to live in,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

And whendo29,,,, I really don't care if you have a gun to defend yourself or your family in Thailand,,,,, place your faith in the Thai Police,,,,,,,,,, I personaly value the safety of my family more than that and would use the maximum capability at my disposal to defend them, whether it's a rock or a firearm. You do what you want, I wouldn't presume to tell you what to do.

LoongLee,
I'm not on here spewing negative opiniions on the US.Politics, justice, abortion, economics, entertainment,or foreign policy.
All I said was I don't see the reason to own a pisol, something that the US seems to be fine with.
As I said,guns bring trouble.
I have no trouble with the US
