Post by jimmythai » April 4, 2012, 9:21 pm

Hello, I will come next week in Udon. I am looking for a guest house in Udon center. Can you advise me ? I have already come in Udon several times but usually I sleep in family of my girlfriend outside Udon city, and this time I need to stay 2 or 3 days inside Udon. If you have a good address thanks to inform me. kind regards.

Jimmy, it's all in what you require. There are inexpensive and expensive in UTH proper.

I would recommend checking the ads here on UM first and looking at the UM map to find the location that best suits you.

I've stayed at Ruy Suk, Centara, Top Mansion, Irish Clock, Pakalang Mansion, Napalai, Ban Chiang, NT Apartments and Sritrakarn Hotel. All have different levels of accomodations and prices. I had a pleasant stay in all of them and would stay in them again. Up2u.

Hello everybody, thanks for your reply. Yes sorry I forgot to precise you, I am looking for room around 500 baht per night. I heard already of Top Mansion, and Irish Clock, but I don t where it is located exactly.
This time I will only stay 2 or 3 nights, and next month I will come to stay and live in Udon, so I will need room or small home for 2 people, if possible not too far from center (room or home fully furnished, around 4000 to 6000 baht if possible).
First if you can advise me for next week 2 or 3 nights, then if you know room and home for rent monthly you can inform me and I could have a look next week
thanks

This trip, I assume will be a visit, while looking for future rentals. Do you plan on renting a car or motorbike, have access to one and plan on using. If that is the case, I would stay at Ruy Suk # 2, on the ring road. Easy access to town, though I personal wouldn’t spend too much time there, or consider living there. You may also have a problem finding something in your price range that I would consider livable.

I personally would steer well clear of Soi Samphan, and not really worth the time to visit. Though the night markets just pass and near the train station and UD Town are stellar. Central Plaza for daytime food court in air conditioning, and night markets for a Thai vibe and great inexpensive Thai food. Do you really want a meat pie, or ham steak when on holiday in Thailand. Plenty of time to be overcharged and disappointed when you live here.

If not having transportation, I would probably still stay there, or at Jan Condotel. Both 500 baht, RS #2 having a pool and decent food, free wifi, and JC centrally located, away from downtown, but close to Nong Prajack Park and lake, plenty of vendors for food. Public transportation is easy to negotiate, and at night time, there are now metered taxis, to avoid the overpriced tuk tuk, at times.

In Udon center there are some popular hotels like:
1. Karin hotel
2. Top Mansion
3. Ruyuk 1 (sponsor of UM)

All under the 500bht.

Here an example:

I would not recommend Ruy Suk # 1, as nice as Joe is, it’s located on Adyundant (?) Road, and is the local thai red light district. Just as Soi Samphan is the farang red light district, with DN and Nutty Park around the corner. You’ll be with your girlfriend, so I wouldn’t subject her to that. She may think you have been there before, LOL. All a bit depressing, especially at night.

For 150 baht more, avoid all the negatives of Udon, and have a pool with decent food at your door, and run by the same professional owners. Ruy Suk # 2 for me, when in town.

Agree with the above to a point.

For short term: I suggest the Karin hotel, it's about a 10 min walk to UD and there's public transportation nearby.

For long term: you may want to consider AEK apartments until you can find something more permanent. The apartments are located in the wing behind AEK hospital. AEK is also located across the road from UD. Here's the link with prices and contact info. **Note that water & electric is not inclusive in the rate.

Thanks for your reply everybody. So I let my girlfriend choose between Top Mansion, Karin Hotel and Jan Hotel.
Concerning Ruy Suk, you speak of Ruy Suk 1, and Ruy Suk 2, it is not the same place ? I also find on internet Ruy Suk Hotel, but they don't precise if RUy Suk 1 or 2 (I saw swimming pool on pictures), which one is it ? Papaguido you said Ruy Suk 2 has a pool, so it is same Ruy Suk Hotel ?
Yes I heard some people speak of Nutty Park but I have never gone, I would like to go have a look, just to have a look.lol. But I would like to avoid hotel just in front of this street.
My girlfriend has expected a party one night for birthday her friend but they want to stay between ladies, no men, so I will have time for me to enjoy the night life in Udon. I hope also to meet people to enjoy, farang or thai, but my thai is very bad...my english is better (I am french)
thanks
Jimmy

Out of those three, always like Ruy Suk 1. Joe is the best! Always accommodating!

For those who are interested a UM-member just made a detailed 'pictures- review-blog'
of popular hotels in the centre of Udon (and nongkai). He mentions also room prices.
