The Big C Overpass

Post by stoneman » April 4, 2007, 11:11 am

Spent last week on my farm north of Udon and made several trips into Udon for supplies, etc..

I noticed that there appears to be nothing going on with the overpass construction there by the Big C...

Doers anyone know the story about this project? In as much as we are in Thailand and it is well known that corruption does sometimes exist here, my guess might be that the contractor, after paying bribes, etc, did not have enough money to finish the project and just walked away...But that is pure conjecture on my part..

We have been talking about this for the last 6 months in another thread. They have stopped building it.

As far as we or anyone else is concerned it is as near complete as it ever will be.

Get used to it.

This...as we always harp on about...is Thailand.

Oldfield, don't be so negative, I am willing to bet that will finish in my life time, I'm 68, we will need someone younger, say maybe Lee to hold the stakes;o)

There was another thread about this recently where someone said that the old contractor went bankrupt and that a new contractor had been found. Apparently construction will begin again after Songkran.

Forsooth jetdoc you cove.

I'll wager yee a goblet of The Irish Clock's finest Ale, or a dubloon of four score and twenty baht, by gads that before the sun doth set on the last day of the merry month of May that those scallywag workmen will nae seteth foot nor hairy toe on the reddened thoroughfare that wast once the road to Sakon Nakon.

Forever we shalt thole the road that lays unfinished in the sky betwixt hither and nither.

Zounds!

Very good oldfield, but quite a leap from "As far as we or anyone else is concerned it is as near complete as it ever will be."
I was willing to bet on the former but shall pass on the latter;o)

Well it's the new year and I haven't seen much action yet.

I'm thinking it's going to be yet another unfinished carbuncle on the landscape of this land.

The future may still be in question as the contract was signed by the deposed governor.TIT

...and still nothing happens.

Does anyone know what's going on with the overpass.

I mean it's nearly finished innit!

This comment does not answer your question.

Yeah, but there is little interest in finishing it if there isn't any money in it.

It was originally due to finish in 2 years time but probably backhanders down the corruption line has meant it will take longer.

Of course it will take longer at this rate.

The way the economy is going at present it may be never.

At least they should do something to 'tidy up' the mess. If you're driving from Udon and going to Big C, you have to turn under the bridge and the road is all messed up. What a mess.

Why wait for all the final cosmetic touches, surely they could have an official opening now - using Evel Knievel to make the first official crossing
