Down the Rabbit hole

Two nights ago, I was watching a program about a recent incident in Queensland where some deranged people ambushed and killed policemen. These were well educated people, one a deputy school principle but they fell into consiracy theories of an apocalyptic American cult leader that saw police as demons that should be killed for some bizzare reason to live in the afterlife.

It got me wondering how seemingly ordinary people get sucked down the rabbit hole of conspiracies. These same people saw COVID 19 as a government plan to control people (now the epidemic is over, I see no evidence that this was the case). Facts no longer matter, only blind adherance to the alternative conspiracy.

Do some people reach a stage in life that they get so disallusioned that they seek an alternative truth? When one pops up, they grab it with both hands, no longer questioning or running a sanity check over the alternative theory/conspiracy/belief but blindly taking it on board.

Is the real world that bad?. Now we have a host of grifters with large followings that make money out of these unfortunate souls. There seems to be millions, maybe even billions to be made from those who follow, donate to and worship those in the post truth world. My theory is that by paying me a bucketload of money, you will be redeemed, my bank details for large transfers is available to those that swear allegiance.

Facts no longer matter, only blind adherence to the mainstream narrative.

Do you think mainstream media is a homogeneous body where all walk to the same drumbeat?

Do you think that it is OK to promote a counter argument or conspiracy even if there is no evidence.?
