Tiny black midges.

Post by udonfox » July 21, 2024, 4:25 pm

Moved to Udon 19 years ago, but spent a lot of time working away. I am now being plagued by tiny little black midges. This as never happened before. Flies and mozzies yes. I 've sprayed the living room and myself, Doesn't deter them. Does any one else have this problem? If so, what do you use to get rid of them? Thanks.

Seasonal. Got them on the front deck. Bloody annoying as the fan doesn't affect them like it does mossies. At least they don't bite like Scottish "midgies" (I think).

Yep have the little blighters visit once per year .. i tried a few things even a naypalm flame thrower with did seem to work for a while but made a real mess of the soft furnishings and flock wallpaper let alone the candelear ... purely by chance i wore my Scunthorpe United shirt during one infestation and within minutes they all scarpered quicker than a Aussie in the soap section in Tescos

Udonfox .. buy a Scunny shirt ......hope that helps.

Go the midges! Beats the bejesus out of the humiliation of being seen wearing a Scunthorpe jersey in public.
Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.

Udonfox if you couldnt stand the adulation of being seen wearing a Scunny shirt then try Chanderite spray ..make sure you get the right one as they do several different variables to exterminate certain insects.... all kinds in Makro.

No problem with midges. My problem is those tiny, tiny ants that are able to give painful bites. I have no idea how anything that small can bite like they do.The worst thing is that they are inside the house as well as outside.

Why don't you PM the Drunk Monkey about getting a Scunny t-shirt?

Yes I first settled in Thailand 1996. Lived in a village Never ever see these blighters!!
Seems the last several years ,millions have invaded the country!
One day I cut my foot slightly. After a while, the cut went black!. But it wasnt black it was full of these Buggers!
It took months to heal.Guess they took out the healing properties.
They a real menace! Go for your nose. mouth, ears.eyes!
They'd be up where the sun dont shine if was exposed!
They Dont get inside the house.
If Outside working, I wear the old covid screen, and ear defenders.
Even if mow the grass, they follow desperately! UGH!

Perhaps investigate the use of "Permethrin" treated clothing to repel mozzies and midgies.
If only, for your outside yard work clothing.
On a project I was involved in way up in the highlands of PNG our work clothing was procured and delivered already treated with Permethrin, shirts, trousers and socks.

Try showering more than once a day you dirty blighters. Your in the tropics you know boys.

sorry joking aside, I'm too soft to live out in the villages and when at home in Udon the doors and windows are never left open without the flyscreens in place.

Every morning I spray outside the doors and windows with mosquito spray and if see ants use that any chalk. If that does not shift them that Charandin (spell?) large stray can kills everything! Make sure any kids and pets are locked up first thought.
