Telephone company...

Post by ivano » September 6, 2007, 4:38 pm

I have finally moved into the other house and wanted to get a telephone line connection, so i could get my adsl back up and running...
So today my GF called the telephone company to ask about it... when they would set it up etc... (last time we called they told us it would be somewhere this week)

The answer we got from the operator was:"Your street is full, we cannot give you a connection/number at this time!"

I have never heard of a street being too full the get one more telephone line in there... did anyone else hear this before???
The street has no more then 10houses in it.. so its not like its the busiest street of Udon...

I cannot believe the answer they gave us, it doesn't sound very 21th century to me...
then again .. TIT so what do i know...

Did you try TTnT instead of ToT?

With ADSL you can only have so many connection to the exchange.

What they ment was their was no more ADSL connections to that exchange. It happens here in South Australia quite often.

Sometime you have to wait for a month or 2 before you can have adsl. either wait til the suppier added more connections in the exchanges or wait til some one discoonects from the suppliers servises. Maybe this is what they mean. :)

It took us about 18 months to get a phone line. Tired of waiting , one day about 4 months ago I ask the wife to call TOT & TTT. TOT said there were no lines available. TT&T said we could get one in about two or three weeks. A few days go by and the TT&T wiremen are out on our street. So my wife goes out ask them if any lines are available. They say they have 11 lines and it's first come first serve. My reserves one on the spot. She also ask the tech why the office said 2 or 3 weeks. The tech said "those people up there never know what's going on".

Tip - offer to pay to have the wire connected to the 'nearest' available empty connection.
I have done this twice now and successfully got connected, much to the annoyance of the neighbours.
Well worth the 800 baht or so extra it cost me :)

my ignorance will be showing, but who, if either provides the ADSL service, tt&t or tot, neither or both. or is it a seperate provider who just used their lines.

also, who has the better service, reliable, and at least 256/128 which is all i would need and be thrilled as it is 5 to 10 times faster than AIS cell phone.

They provide it through their lines, but don't forget its a network, and they connect to somebody (everybody) else.

My wife's friends say that T&T is much more reliable that TOT. But we have TOT and since the latest repair, we have been up and running for 22 hours straight!!!!

We did call both TOT and TT&T... but for them to hook us up, they need a telephone number, and since we don't have one yet, neither company can help us.. they say
I must agree with your technician Papaguido... most of the time, if you get an operator on the line, they don't know what they are talking about!!
But they will never admit that!! They will prefer to give you some (wrong) information then actually say they don't know... TIT
(About a month ago i had a glitch in my connection with TT&T, and the lady on the phone told me qoute:" you use internet too much" , can you imagine that!! haha
i used internet too much according to her!!
Of course this is complete and utter BS, so i called them half a dozen times untill i got an operator on the line that didn't have his head up his ***,and who actually spoke very good english and he told me in about 5minutes what to do and it was sorted.
To the man of Ketchup: we didn't mention we wanted internet, we just told them we wanted a telephone-connection and a number that matched the connection....
So there was no way they could have been talking about to many ADSL-connection to the exchange...
This afternoon i'll go and visit the TT&T office, near the prison, to explain and ask them what they can do for us.. after all, i am still under contract with them from my former adress, so if they don't want to lose me as a client, they should figure it out ey...
I'll keep you posted (after the weekend) how that went...

THe house we are in has been waiting for a phone line for 7 years, none available. We arranged to get the phone line installed from another abandoned house in the Moo baan, the house is owned by the bank. Anyway we have a phone line, but not ADSL, went to TOT but they require a copy of the house owners Tabian Baan, no way we will get that off the bank for a house we are not living in, no way around it apparently, would be nice to have but still consider myself lucky to have a phone line.
Slightly related story in that our next door neighbor in BKK was a TOT executive, I used to have the occasional beer with him, he disclosed to how much his Salary package was, not the exact amount but he said over twice as much as the Prime Minister of Thailand was receiving. I remember thinking what for? I mean he was hardly ever at work and look at how badly run the place is.

Go with TT&T, from reading on the forums it would seem that many subscribers to TOT aren't happy with their service. I've got TT&T and haven't experienced any problems since getting their service.

We got a letter the other day saying that our 512/256 service is being upgraded to 1024/512 without a fee increase. I thought this was only for current subscribers. But the wife said the promotion is for new subscribers as well. May want to check them out:

Saturday we went to the TT&T office, where they told us that there used to be a telephone and internet connection at our adress.
Some farang guy named "Jan Debel Klokken Hensen" used to live there for a few months (the owner forgot to mention that to us...) and applied for a telephone number, but when he left he never cancelled that number! (he did cancel his internet..)
Apparantly he still pays for that number, so the company cannot cancel it without his approval!!
Even the owner of the house joined us to the TT&T office and she had all her papers of the house with her, to show them that it was really her house.. but even then they cannot cancel that number since it is in that farangs name!!
The only thing we can do is wait for a new number (months...) or find the guy and ask him to please please cancel that contract so we can use it...
If anyone heard of this guy, and knows where he is currently staying... it would be a great help to let me know!!
The owner told us, she thinks.... that he is a teacher...somewhere.
thx anyway for the tips and all...

Yes, but they do not seem to be technically proficient. Or maybe its because I can't speak intelligible Thai and they just kept passing me to the guy who can understand me.
