Farang Policeman

Post by bigwavedave » July 8, 2008, 8:22 pm

I may be wrong but...... This afternoon I was in Robinson's complex sitting having a coffe, when I saw a Farang in Uniform with a Policeman...
the Farang was a british guy because he had a union jack among other badges.... he sort of reminded me of St john's Ambulance brigade... The white shirt and Black trousers with loads of badges..... he was definately patrolling with the Thai policeman......maybe somebody can correct me if i'm wrong....

I heard some time ago, The Thai tourist police employ some farangs.A german man told me they approached him to do some policing.I did'nt really believe him then. But maybe true!Ive not seen a farang policeman here yet!
Would he say.....hallo hallo hallo, or sawatdee, sawatdee sawatdee! Is this your vehicle Khap?........ ER....No sir... Its the missus! Would he accept a dropsy?----! that could be expensive! Farang rates :yikes:

I can't remember anyone saying that had a negative experience with the falang tourist police volunteers!

I have only heard positive things about experiences with them!Supposedly, they are there to help with communications and other misunderstandings!

If someone has had any ''police type''experiences with them,I hope they post it!

I don't see any value to the negative tone towards them w/o citing experiences!

From what I have heard,I would be glad they were there if I had a problem! :D

Without naming anyone, there were some farang tourist police volunteers in this forum but apparently they have gone undercover (or to China). Agree that you might be glad they're here if you are ever faced with a serious problem or accident.

The Tourist Police were advertising for Farang volunteers on a notice at Tesco Lotus a month or two back.
I agree quite handy if you have a problem and can get a farang to assist you.
Job is unpaid, though, and you are on probation for 3 months.....after that period I dont know if you get a work permit ??

listen if the police want to make farangs feel more secure, why dont they stop targeting us at the roadside money stops. instead of recruiting a few volunteers. there is always a thai who speaks english on duty at the tourist police anyway, and its your right for them to be called to any incident.

The Police do not target farangs. If the farang is stupid enough not to wear a helmet, he/she deserves to be stopped and given ticket or whatever. Whats that old saying, 'If you dont like your head, dont wear a helmet'.

I dont think police target farangs at all. They are scared of extra paperwork! Most cant speak English anyway.I think too much hassle for them.I got stopped outside Big C,I had my helmet on,I said "me no understand" He looked at me puzzled, and said" By" "by" waving me on.Another time,I got stopped,g/f no have helmet.
Said to me .....license? I showed him my UK licence, handed it back to me, said 200 baht! Lady no have helmet.Fair enough that's the law and I agree with it!
They are 100 times better than police UK!
Police UK are so serious.they hate the public.I think they are trained to!
Thai police quite a good bunch really
