More falang bashings and other news

Post by Doc » February 13, 2006, 10:59 pm

Bashings of falangs is continuing. These are potentially deadly attacks, with victims typically being hospitalized for 5 days. The attacks are taking place between 1:30 and 3:30 AM. The victims have all been to either Falang Alley or Mr. Tongs immediately prior to being attacked. Attacks have taken place near The Mansion and The City Lodge. All the victims were alone. Some were hit in the head with a rock or club, and some have been hit first in the leg with the equivalent of a baseball bat before being bashed in the head.

On Saturday night, 5 Thai's were arrested on the same street as the Irish Clock as suspects in one or two of the bashings. It is speculated that there are still other's "running loose."

There are also reports of some drinks being "spiked" on Falang Alley. Speculation is that it is a "free lancer" or a group of "free lancers" doing this, if it is, in fact, being done. Apparently the "Mickey" hasn't been strong enough to actually put someone under the table, but there have been some side effects. No toxicology examinations have been done, so this should be considered an "allegation" rather than "absolute fact."

The typical warnings apply to both of these situations.

1. Don't walk alone after dark.

2. Try not to park in the parking lot behind Falang Alley if you are planning on being out late. Park on the street out front.

3. Don't carry your bank cards, credit cards or other important documents if you are going to be out late and on the piss.

4. Don't leave your drink un-attended.

5. When possible, mix your own drinks. Take the bottle with you when you leave. (Unless you truly do trust the bar you leave your bottle at.)

6. Be vigilant at all times.

Exactly

I do really hope you are not going to attempt to turn another serious information thread into a mockery hxjohn.

There is no agenda; or if you think there is spell it out, ok? You can talk, I suspect. If it's not abusive, either to me, or another forum member like last time, all ears as they say...

If it's a moderation issue to which you refer, see the forum rules, a PM with your concerns to Admin is the only route.

Thank you

John

mockery

Post by hxjohn » February 14, 2006, 3:33 am

i post a reply to a subject iam pretty sure i know much more about then you .. iam turning it into a mockery you seem to be takeing more intrest in me then the facts yorkman
my post is in reply to doc whom i have sipped many a happy beer with i have no problem with you.. to each is own
maybe your still upset about my post a few weeks ago where i did not like to reveal any names about a event that was proven to have happened
i post facts yorkman that is way the post had more hits then anything one the board
when you start with the facts instead of jumping into wild speculation you create intrest then follow up with more facts thats a good way i think there are enoff users who speculate wildley without any inside info on the facts
again unsure if this post will be allowed buy editor

Now come on......., its a friendly and more or less "grown up" bunch here, if you want to flame or abuse..go elsewhere (your choice....or)

Notice....no deletions or agenda....a slight hint to behave nicely

Mr. hxjohn, your idea of putting a bit of info just to see if anybody takes the bait is IMHO inmature. If you have some info that you want to share, do it. The part of see how many my times my post got a hit makes no sense. Sounds like your whole point is to have hits on your post. That is a new way to validate ones self.

My point is if you have a story or point you wish to share, Please post it and let it be. If someone needs clarification they will ask.

Have fun and post a whole story. If it is of interest or good you will still have a lot of hits and the story will live forever.

I agree John, lets get back to the original topic.

I think a question that need to be asked (and I think the answer is very plain) is:

Any country tht I have visited, if you are out past 1am and beeen drinking a bit, you follow the rules as Doc has laid out. It is sad that this type of bahavior is happening at Udon. Were the victims fired up to the MAX?

As a non-citizen of any country and especially when you stand out as a falang in Thailand, you have to be responsible for your actions. It doesn't excuse the person doing the crime, but then again getting fired up to the max in ones own country and wandering around by yourself would most likely get you a bit of jail time. If Thailand started arresting the drunks late at night, it would end up like the folks with the expired visas. A whole lot of yelling. One of my hobbies is to walk around a town between 5am and 7am. Watching a city come to life in the am is quite exciting. (a whole different story). When I have walked around Bangkok,Udon, Pattaya, it is depressing to see some of the drunks and the way they are acting. If you do this you will not want to be one of these folks. Quite disgusting. I can see why they would be easy marks for criminals. Don't see why they have to hit them. Most do a good job to stay standing up.

Have I ever been fired up to the max, you bet. If I am going to go do this I take along someone that will not be partaking as much. You know I have had just as much fun drinking sodas. Have found out don't need mind altering elemants to have a good time. I also remember what I have done.

back on docs topic

Sad times eh!

I hate to say it but you could almost see the writing on the wall.

Unfortunately Udon is becoming popular with an undesirable farang element, which will be a magnet for the Thai equivalent.

Going are the days when you can go out late of an evening and have a few beers, watch the footy and have a reasonable conversation with professional expatriates, retired or still active. Its getting to the stage where you could get a

Clearly, the wrong type of people are now coming to Udon and for the wrong reasons. Maybe their bad behaviour is due to their sudden realisation that Udon isn't another Phuket or Pattaya, and they feel they've been mislead into coming here!

So what needs to be done to get the right type of visitors to come to Udon?

Maybe some mini-package tours to Udon should be arranged along the lines of....... "Get away from the over commercialised beach resorts and spend a few days discovering the real Thailand".

"Yes, why not try one of a mini-breaks to Udon. In the morning try your hand at Flower arranging at the Udon Orchid Farm. In the afternoon, improve your Golf at one of the many local courses, and the highlight of the evening a crochet evening at Mr Tong's, topped off with a traditional Thai buffet of Issan food, or a spot of colonic irrigation"! :)

That could certainly bring about a new and different type of visitor to Udon.

Well I think we have all seen Udon change, not being in the night life much anymore, doesn't effect me. I saw a Thia friend yesterday who wa relating a farrnag beating and robbery to me, now was it the same thing being talked about as what I had seen here, I don't know.

The reason people come here seem to be pretty accurate, a friend that I know that frequents the Thai houses has been commenting that that there are now many farrangs coming here just for the sex industry. In his words drunk loud and stupid.

Anyone notice how large the Thai sex houses had became here, hence the police raids, they have been an unspoken aspect of Udon for years, if you didn't know they were here, you wouldn't have even realized it, then it became very much in your face.

I still feel safe here, but I'm not out drunk at 3:00 A.M these days, before I would not have thought anyhting baout it. five years ago i actually had Thai' follow me home to make sure no one hurt me. I doubt that I would feel the same way about Thai's following me home these days.

Of course I din't go to farrang places not that many five years ago and I wouldn't today either, I had much more fun and a pleasant group of people to be around in the Thia places. But each to his own form of entertainment.

Doc gave good advice and it's not that hard to follow.
