Living costs for a single guy in Udon Thani?
New post.
I know many of you guy's one time or an other might have been living
alone in Udon.
Would like to hear your opinions about what it takes for a single person
to get by a month.
I have already a small house waiting for me outside Udorn. 4000 BTH.
Including electricity and water.
And can use my neighbour's phone and Internet. 1/2 cost of the line.
Will buy a bike and what else I will need when I come cash.
I will eat at home about 75% time's of the month.
Intend to buy a freezer, buy thai food at 20BTH a meal from a nearby small store/restaurant.
Love Thai food, so western food perhaps 1 or 2 time's a month.
Udorn, perhaps 2 times a week, shopping, having a " few ".
I drink, smoke. ( and like woman's too of course, but that besides these
questions I know what that will cost me if that be the case ).
I figure buying 60 take out meal's lasting about 20+ days : 3500 BTH
( To put in the freezer )
Rent incl. above. 4000 "
Gas for the bike 500 "
1/2 phone line 200 "
Eating in Udorn + drinks, beer 8 times; 500 BTH 4000 "
House stuff, bottle water and things needed for the house. 3000 "
Liquor, beer. tobacco... 2000 "
Clothing, no more than 1000 "

14700 BTH
Do you think that is realistic or am I out/up in the blue ???????????????
If that is realistic I will change my arrival early next year to yesterday !!!
I be very grateful for your input to my questions.

The great mighty chang think,s you need about 600-1000k a day to live as a single man in udon . You should be able to get by easy with this sort of money so 30,000 k a month , it is hard to say so many side shows to make yee blow the budget the are these creatures called woman that tend to make yee overspend to be honest it all depends what your expectations are.
good luck and remember forbiden fruit taste nice with a bit of ice cream!

as low as 20K, but 30 K is better. lots of factors. though reading your thoughts, i suspect you want to get here as soon as possible. big surprise. remember, SH*T HAPPENS . don't come without a cushion, just in case.
when i started coming here and planning, i had a 2 year plan, or so, to retire, was actually commuting to usa to work and living here. the job actually allowed me to spend more time here than there, and still have full check. then SH*T HAPPENED . 2 years, no income, no ability to work. luckily i was prepared , though not what the money was earmarked for. didn't have to make any major adjustments, though should of, and though trying not to, was still spending 50 k a month. until that liquid cushion started getting thin, then brought it down to 20k. then more sh'*t hit the fan, few months of health care for dying family member back in states, then some more ---- , ex decides to relieve me of the rest of my liquid cushion , and marriage failing fast . don't rely on your insurance whether private or gov't sponsored to be there when you need them, no matter how many premiums you paid. had to sue everyone, and bounced back quite well , on half of what i should of , legal cost add up. sh*t happens, and you can only depend on yourself to bail your butt out. so have a cushion and a good game plan. hopefully, unlike me, you won't need it and it will simply be a nicer cushion to retire on.
so prepare well, so when you do come here, you can stay and enjoy it.

I have about the same rent and utility bills as you. I normally only go out every second night, eat a lot of thai food, freeload when I can and survive quite well on 30K baht a month. I am lucky as I have a large cushion but do not like to spend money unwisely. This lofty ideal does fly out the window some nights.
I have a pickup and motor si so once a year there are expenses of about 22K for vehicle insurance etc. I also fly home twice a year so there is 60K Baht odd there. This comes out of my general slush fund and not the 30K Baht.

Thanks guys !
The reason I am asking is that I like to hear from as many as I can to build a
good picture about it.
I know that one can spend any amount of money, but just like to try to see what
the bottom line can be.
I as well will be living 45 km outside Udorn, no shopping/nightlife nearby so spending money there is nill.
Living in Udorn should would cost more no doubt.
Will have a cushion that can last 4-5 years at a minimum, and also a small income
of around 20 K each month from back home.
So, thanks for your input, very good replies.
Will post a question about Visa runs next.
Have a good day everybody.
Bo.

Hi,
Bought house three years ago in Udon 1MB, three bedrooms 2 bathrooms, live with G.F. and 2 children, 9 and 16yrs. Have car and M/B, all paid for, and i live quite well on 10,000B a week, This includes English lesson for G/F and eldest daughter and music lessons for the youngest daughter. Go out dining at weekends to give G/F a rest from cooking. Go back home every 15 months, and the fare is saved out of the 10,000B. At home now costs from Udon was 40,020B flying with Thai to BKK then Qatar to Manchester and Flybe to Isle of Man.
Cheers Doug

Even if I could buy, I would rent, rent, rent. I'd rather have my money invested and making more money than being tied up in a mortgage when I have more years behind me than ahead of me.vlad the e-mailer wrote:Just out of interest chappies how much is a decent small house maybe 2 bedrooms or is it better to rent and can an off comer just buy property off a real estate company
Besides, rents are pretty inexpensive.
Additionally, if a g/f or wife is in the picture, she will inherit whatever is left, which should be considerable. She can build or buy after I'm gone.
No... Romyen is about 1M if you want to buy....and we had a 3 bed house before we moved into what we built for 3000B a month. Get wifey to negotiate and do not show yourselfBobHelm wrote:Only a Thai national can own land, so you cannot buy - only lease..
Depends what you want & (most importantly) where for price. But in Romyen a 3 bed bungalow will cost 1.2M to 1.7M to buy & 5,000 to 8,000 a month to rent....
1.7 is a mansion in Romyen
