Luggage scale

Post by ZARguy » February 3, 2015, 11:38 am

I'm looking for a luggage scale for my trip back home on 1st March.
My gf keeps buying me clothes even though I've got plenty at home, so I am sure I have a helll of a lot more than when I came.

Nothing at Tesco in SDD. Amongst all you ex-pats when you visit your favourite department store or possibly a hardware store could you please have a look for one for me?
Need a photos from your mobile and a price. Should go up to at least 35/40kg, and have a hook for hanging your bag off. They're pretty simple. Posibly look like a scaled down fish scale.
I am in Sawangdendin, without a car so I need a good=hearted soul to buy one and post it to me?

In RSA one can send funds through an ATM to anyone, they just need a code at the same banks ATM to draw the money, Can you do that here?

We can PM all details if someone find one.

PS: I bought a digitial scale but it didn't work when got home. My gf took it back but they didn't have another so replaced it with a standeard bathroom scale. We both tried it and I reckon it overreads around 8-10 kg. Definitley no use, though her weight cheered her up no end!

A litle googling showed me that the ralatively cheap spring scale that I remember seems no more! All ones I saw were digitial = rather an overkill for using once a year. I might just find the old style one when I get back to CT.

Refelcting some more, the one I remember was possibly when a child at home, and I think my dad used it for weighing fish. Oh and I recall seeing them in the old country general dealers used for weighing sacks e.g. of potatoes, maize or whatever.
It is probably only to be found now in a museum of memorobilia!

wiking - not too South Africa where parcels are rountinely lost or opened and contents pilfered, though it seems to be getting better.

kopkei - thanks, tempting but just a bit too expensive.

FLICKFLACKER404 - Good thinking outside the box!
Would be a good solution except that the 7-11 is a fast 10 minute walk, through a busy area and crossing the market, so not so great dodging, people and errant motorcycles with a heavy bag (despite the wheels).

Still I might try it. I get a standard 30 kg allowance on Qatar on both legs and I doubt I will be over that anyway. On previous flights by Emirates I think its less. It's just the internal Nok Ait flight I will have to pay for extra allowance.

Thanks all!

Luggage scale

A few years ago while travelling a lot, like you I wondered what the weight of the suitcases i had were, I came to the conclusion that the largest one I could only just about lift was overweight, so with some trepidation i went to teh airport to book in and found it was only 18 kgs, therefore if I can lift it easily it was a lot less than 20 kgs, which is the max for most airlines if you are travelling economy.

If you go from Central Plaza to the railway station, just before crossing the last road go into the market on the small entrance before the 7/11 and walk like 50 m, there is a fishing supply shop and they should have scales to hook on fish or suitcases
At least I use my fishing scale also for the suitcases...

Bye,
Derk

He could borrow my fisherman's scale Derk but he would probably always be overweight.

Khun Paul - interesting. Now that I think about it I have never actually checked my bag weight at check-in and never had a problem, but it has certianly been pretty heavy to heft around.

Derk - thanks but I am in Sawang and need to buy it here.

Borrowing from FLICKFLACKER404's idea, what I will do is take my gf's niece to the 7-11 and weigh her. Then back home put her on our new barhroom scale and adjust so it matches. She is about 18kg which is close enough to what my bag will probably weigh i.e. 20-25kg.

BTW I tested all the bathroonm scales at Tesco with a 8 kg weight that was close by and none were remotely accurate. One or two couldn't even be set to zero. Admittedly this was at the bottom end of the scale and maybe they were more accurate at normal weights. I had to do this with my home scale and it is spot on at my weight now.

Why not hold the bag whilst on the bathroom scales and deduct your weight.

Good idea coxo, better than mine, and should do the trick! I wighed myself yesterday at Tesco and today I'll correct the scale to match.
