Health cover options

Post by marshbags » October 2, 2017, 9:22 am

My elderly friend is about to renew his policy ( age 73 ) and has been offered optional cover on the main items as follows....
Limits of 1,2000,000 OR 3,000,000
Room and Board Benefit effective from day 1 5,000.00 6,000.00
Hospital ex's 200,000.00 300,000.00
Emergency OPD 6,000.00 8,000.00 Bone marrow and organ transplant, kidney dialysis 200,000.00 300,000.00
Non Surgical Schedule applies 200,000.00 Normal & Customary
Physician’s hospital visit up to 45 days. Maximum limit / day
2,500 Normal & Customary

Can anyone advise on if paying an additional fee of 26k for the higher benefits is advised or would the first option be adequate Please.

Thank you

Marshbags

The answer depends on the type of hospital your friend would use i.e. the lower benefits may be ok for a Government style hospital but not if he wants to use a private hospital e.g. Bangkok Udon.
At his age an extra 26k Baht for doubling his benefits is cheap so suggest he pays the extra if he can afford

Hello Peter,

Than you for your much appreciated response and valued information.

I have already passed on your advice and he is going to go for the benefits you suggest.
He will be using the private hospital facilities whenever possible / convenient so it really does make sense to go for the maximum cover available.

He has a historical insurance going back over 20 years and since reaching seventy realises how lucky he is to have kept it going especially as time goes by.

You have been very kind to offer your thoughts to someone who is not insured by your company and it is a credit to yourself so thank you again on his behalf.

Kind Regards
Michael

As an after thought on my friends observations re age..

If I might add there is a lesson for all of those under seventy to contact Peter while you have time to enquire about health insurance or loose out when the cover will be needed most in your later years.

I fortunately have cover and intend to keep it going as I approach the age limit of 70.

Good luck to everyone and stay healthy.

This is a very difficult question to answer as we all have different needs, risk factors and expectancy.
May I suggest for a 65 year old you could get a basic policy to cover IPD, OPD and Emergency for approx. 21,000 Baht, however from there the sky is the limit depending on the benefit limits ?

Please feel free to email me direct when you are ready : peter@aainsure.net

Just got a quote from Regency Insurance Company,i'm getting 60 in March..between 6700-->10.300/Month/Health.I can pay by MONTH,claim rate 98.5 %..good reviews.Anyone here using them?If so,input please.

Seems pretty much impossible to get anything from a Thai compay that doesn't cost a arm and a leg.I'm wating for a quote from AA Insurance Brokers.

Dui you would be struggling to get any health insurance policy for the prices you might be thinking of.

The cheaper the product the more exemptions in reality.

The cost of providing health care is skyrocketing yearly and thats reflected in the premiums no doubt.

For those who are interested, I have some form of Health Insurance coverage for my TG and her two children, through the THAI LIFE INSURANCE PUBLIC COMPANY LTD. Logo looks like below.

The girl is 12 and her Cover costs TB 18,554 PA and the boy is 7 and his Cover costs TB 19,455 PA. Had it for about two years now. Haven’t got the policies with me, but from what I understand the coverage, i.e. for time when in hospital and or surgery, accident etc. is pretty good, the excess is minimal and it has some dental cover as-well. Can find out more details for anyone who is interested.

I have a similar Policy on the TG (she is 31, non-smoker) and her coverage is around TB 29,000 per annum

Haven't looked into coverage for myself yet (when I move to Thailand), as I already have coverage where I work.

^^^ I've been with this company for the last 5 years on their Wealthy Healthy 2000 plan. They have a good website in Thai and English and you can apply online.

I have made one claim for an operation where they paid 90% of a near 100,000 baht bill without any problem. My last renewal was for 18,937 baht for a 61 year old, so pipoz is getting a much better level of coverage for his family. :D

They will renew up to 80 years of age if you start before the age of 65.
That's good to know, that they will give cover for around 20,000 plus, to those around 60 years old and also continue it through to 80. Nice to know that they also payout

There are several companies that will offer the over 60's that level of cover/premium but note they get more strict for new applications and or pre-existing conditions once over 60.
Thai health 'WH' plans attached.

I was with Bupa Thailand but evidently Aetna has acquired Bupa Thailand. Anybody know anything about Aetna health care?

Aetna is a (very) large American company specialising in Heath Insurance.

They have taken over BUPA in Thailand - thankfully as with BUPA’s loss ratio they could not have survived the way they were heading.

The only difference are the new colours and logos, the plans stay very similar to what we were used to. Your Broker should have sent you a letter explaining with your renewal.
