depend on what you have been doing for the previous 39 years
i don't know about 40-50-60, god, i hope not any later, some days i feel my 54, other days, am i still alive and how much longer can it go on. on the good days, i wonder how these youngsters can't even keep up.
guess it depends on what you think is important to your life. took me a while to decide what i wanted to be when i grew up, well, if i every do, sorry if repeating myself, but once i became a working class hero, the only think i looked forward to was retiring. that done, i can pick chose what i wanted, which since my advanced maturity, or lack, continually changes, but keeps things interesting. not having to answer to anyone except the handsome devil in the mirror is enough. the rest is easy, no more butt kissing, though i failed terribly in that and office politics, could explain 30 jobs in thirty years.
as long as someone needs you, cares about you and loves you, the good life already started, though it gets much better after retirement, so hang in there. respect yourself and others, and life is good. do your best at whatever you attempt, though there will be many trials and tribulations. which we all fail and succeed at. hopefully succeeding more. smile, life is good.
everyday is a gift, i'm trying for another 20 years myself, though if i crap out tomorrow................................beside that really sucking, .....no regrets.
i think the expression life begins at 40, because most chickies have entered menopause. once past that hormonal swing, that's got to suck also, but life has to be great once done.
but is that really the case, 
if now fifty is the new forty and if it is and i finally settle down full time in the udon thani area it seems to me that life begins at 60 , and if that is so if i get to 60 will the new 60 be 70 
it makes me wonder if life will ever begin these days if people keep moving the bloody thing
