And why many farangs are also 'TOHLEH'.
This is a rather rude word but common for isaan people.

Can you write it in Thai as it seems to be a phrase that I should know?

Good that you ask. I asked that also to a thai and she does not know also how to write in thai. It means poisons, cheating (your partner), lying and other negatives. Once I was in bkk and I try to bargin. I said "mai tohleh nah"...wow, if I was not with my ex I think that market girl hit me. It is rather rude outside isaan. Free tranlation: don't nonsense me or don't ---- with me. Only that word is I think BS a good tranlation

I've rarely met a foreigner who can use slang/curse words such as ตอแหล in the right environment. The words your wife might use with you at home are not necessarily the same words you'd want to use in public.

1.[v, i, colloq, vulgar] [colloquial expletive that was formerly used chiefly with women but now is used to criticize men, too] to fib; to lie; to prevaricate; to equivocate; to evade; to beat about the bush; to dodge; to hedge
2.[adj, colloq] talkative (like a child who is learning to speak)
3.[adj, colloq] [of plants] unsually fast in bearing fruit

Yes you are right. She said its "same same" but I know its not the same, I mean toh-leh or go-hok must be different cause in many cases you can use the word toleh. For example, he is toleh. As I understand well is the free translation: he is nonsense. Also when someone talks nonsense you can say, toh-leh. He did not lie but he is nonsense.

According to Thai2English.com, ตอแหล dtor-lăe lie ; fib. Therefore โกหก may be a milder form of 'to lie, fib'.

please refer to: http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/p ... ml#p325219

when I use dtor lae in a sentence talking to a thai, I am describing or putting down a (person) farang as a serial liar, in the same breath, using go hok, I am saying a person is lying. I also know the phrase for "liar goes to hell".

you can phrase it softly to a stranger: jing uh? shure na? or shure laa?

To warn people Vlad, that one must be careful. There is another thread here about secret of dating Thai women. Perhaps with your past experience you can comment in that thread.

About ตอแหล , this is definitely the word written in Thai for TO-LEH, i just heard it, pronounced by my laptop. :D

Yes, that is what I meant by saying that one is a milder form of the stronger expression.
