Roller coasters were invented to distract Americans from sin
In the 1880s, hosiery businessman LaMarcus Thompson hated that Americans were tempted by hedonistic places like saloons and brothels. So he set out to straighten up one of the most immoral places he could think of: Coney Island in New York. There, he built America’s first roller coaster to give New Yorkers some good, clean fun—away from seedier pastimes.

- WikiIn April 2014, 72 years after the character's first appearance, Archie Comics announced that the adult Archie would die in the July 2014 issue (#36) of Life with Archie,[8] while the teenage Archie would continue in the other Archie comic series titles. Archie dies when he is shot in the abdomen while saving his friend, Senator Kevin Keller.[9] The story is written so as to terminate both storylines, without committing to which girl Archie married, and contains several flashbacks to the Little Archie days. The final issue (#37) is set one year after Archie's death. All his friends memorialize him, and Riverdale High School is officially renamed Archie Andrews High School in his honor. The story ends with Jughead, owner of Juggie's (formerly Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe), serving a sundae to three children who resemble Little Archie, Betty, and Veronica.

In 2004 Badminton New Zealand chose 'Black Cocks' as the nickname for its national teams,
There was immediate sponsorship interest from condom companies, but the name drew ridicule from the public and firm opposition from the International Badminton Federation.

THE GREEN BAY PACKERS (NFL)
In 1919 Curly Lambeau convinced a local meat packing company to donate $500 for the purchase of equipment for a team to play American Football
The donation was only given as long as the Team would be called The Packers. With this the Green Bay Packers came into existence playing at Lambeau Field (it was renamed in August 1965 in memory of Packers founder, player, and long-time head coach, Earl “Curly” Lambeau, who had died two months earlier.)

More than 65 million men from 30 countries fought in WWI. Nearly 10 million died. The Allies (The Entente Powers) lost about 6 million soldiers. The Central Powers lost about 4 million. Nearly 2/3 of military deaths in WWI were in battle. In previous conflicts, most deaths were due to disease.
Disgusting and for what?
A waste of people and resources as all conflicts are

Re: Yes it really happened
The death toll was much greater than 6 million, most conservative estimates are between 70 and 85 million. If you include lead up atrocities like the Japanese invasion of China you can add another 20 million.Doodoo wrote: ↑August 31, 2023, 12:26 pmMore than 65 million men from 30 countries fought in WWI. Read again OH Great One
"More than 65 million men from 30 countries fought in WWI. " Japan did not invade China until WW2 and in fact was an Allie with Britain in WW1
"Japan participated in World War I from 1914 to 1918 in an alliance with Entente Powers and played an important role in securing the sea lanes in the West Pacific and Indian Oceans against the Imperial German Navy as a member of the Allies."

Re: Yes it really happened
I would suggest you think a bit before leaping in.
You did not say 10 million soldiers died, you said 10 million deaths in WW2, Frankly I see little difference between a soldier's death and a civilian death, the poor soul died as a result of WW2.
Read again, I said if you add the Chinese deaths IN THE LEAD UP to the war, a qualification that is quite obvious. Japan did not wait until WW2 to invade China, Japan entered the war in December 1941, but they invaded China nearly 4 and a half years earlier.
I said nothing about WW1, totally off topic.

Re: Yes it really happened
Actually if you look at most figures and ADD the RUSSIAN WAR DEAD TO THE TOTAL AND INCLUDE THE CHINESE deaths prior to WW11, then the totals are far more approximately 40 mill plus in the military etc and an equal amount of civilans, although the civilian figures are under what they should be as many died or were just eliminated from the earth together with their whole families so in reality no-one knows for sure

Re: Yes it really happened
My point Jack was the number who died was not just soldiers. 10 miliin soldiers was about one tenth of the number of deaths from WW2

It’s impossible to hum while holding your nose
You just tested it, didn’t you? Normally, when you hum, the air is able to escape through your nose to create the sound, and of course, it can’t do that when you’re holding it shut. This is one of the weird facts you can test out for yourself. Go ahead, try it.
