There hasn't been a budget because Senate Minority Leader (Republican) Mitch McConnell has blocked it repeatedly. Then has the hutzpah to now ask "Where is the budget?". It's that kind of forked-tongue wickedness and lies which has us where we are today. Republican supporters are either in on it or they are ridiculously stupid and gullible morons to continue to vote such idiots into office over and over again.

KD.... x'actly so but I'd have to include most of both parties who've sat in their long term incumbencies for decades.. They see things one way, the Washington way..

That's simple only one guy to fire. Those who create the stumbling blocks should not re elected. Unfortunately he is not from my district.

A correction on my part $174.000 a year not a month. And as far as I remember that's for life, that's minimum wage.

I have never n made that much o money in a year. But, then I was expected to do my work.

In all likelyhood the Secretary of the Interior ordered the barricades, but they will blame some staffer in bfusa. Where did the money come from to erect the barricades? The money should be taken out of the Secretary's salary. The Republican Party has offered to pay to keep the memorial open

The Memorial IS OPEN although technically closed. It was closed for a few minutes until some light barricades were moved to the side. NO ONE has been reported as having been there and having to leave without being able to tour the site.

Wow.......800,000 out of work thanks to the Republicants; USA losing roughly 100 million a day.....and the Republicants making a big deal out of a short delay. Does anyone really believe the police were going to knock some old veterans out of their wheelchairs and put the cuffs on em? C'mon get real....talk about grasping at straws......what clowns.

Ted Cruz has finished reading "Green Eggs and Ham" so he has plenty of time on his hands and he volunteered to man the front gate. However, he was rejected as not being qualified and instead has been assigned to the closed National Zoo where he continues to shovel nonsense with amazing speed and ability.

It is this sort of general public ignorance and stupidity that has made our democracy the dysfunctional banana republic it is today. These are Americans who vote.

I am proudly American, but it scares the shyt out of me that we are essentially running the world and are "entrusted" with the power to blow it up anytime we want. It seems we are going to start by blowing up the global financial system. I don't know what's after that, but it may be time to practice duck and cover drills...

Americans traveling to France to pay their respects at the Normandy American Cemetary were turned away because of the federal government shutdown.

Mean spirited government!

That's DOA. Dems have already stated they are not going to allow Republicans to cherry-pick. This latest effort is pure theater. Republicans continue to play the same games.

By all accounts, the onus is on Republicans as far as public sentiment is concerned. Dems just need to fold their hands and wait for House Republicans to figure out they are going to have to pass the Senate bill.

If I were O, after attending to other affairs, I'd be playing golf, shooting hoops, or spending more quality time with the girls as it all plays out.

Blame it on the Cubans.....no, blame it on the Canadians. No, again. Blame it on Ted Cruz. Mawreen Dowd gives a view of the US Capital in the year 2084.

You know I think it's time the U.S Congress reviews article one of the Constitution. It clearly states it there job to pay the bills. all the President can do is accept it or veto it. His veto can be over ridden. This entire thing falls squarely on Congresses shoulders. To bad they can't read there on laws.
