Polehawk,,, yeah, I saw where THAI started the LAX route again, just wish it was JFK. I really don't know what the problem was, the flights were full with no seats open when we flew. We've done the Northwest flight a few times before,,, many hours and arrival in BKK at 12:00 midnight,,,, rough.

That might be good for me... Time frame is right for me too. I can go Dublin to London then Quantas to Bangkok... I hope. I prefer Quantas to Etihad by a mile... or 6,000 miles. [-o<

And I CERTAINLY don't bat for the other side... First time with QANTAS I fell in love with my lovely FEMALE ASIAN crew attendant... Oh she was stunning. I held on to the door but they got me off. Only camp attendant that springs to mind was with Etihad.

WARNING!!!

Anyone flying out with Thai from London Heathrow will be cramped.
Thai are using Airbus 340-500's on the LHR-BKK route. Half the seats in cattle class have a reduced seat pitch from 34"
to 32". Makes a big difference those two inches on a 12 hour flight. Even worse you could be unlucky and have a video control box under the seat in front of that makes you even more uncomfortable. These boxes run the seat back entertainment screens. If you want comfort on the trip AVOID Thai, and book with Malaysia or Air New Zealand 34" seat pitch.

My friend is a main agent for Thai Airways he told me AFTER, I booked and paid for the tickets. ](*,)

The Airbus is much smaller than the 747-400 so the flights are full at the moment, with a lot of Thais, and their families going back before Songhran kicks off.

Yes Prenders 2" can make a big difference... I just checked and Swissair are showing as cheapest but an 8 hour stopover in Zurich, travel time 21Hrs 30 mins... No thanks... For €30 extra I can go with Lufthansa via Frankfurt... Travel time 14Hrs... That'll do nicely... 8)

Westers if you want his number PM me.

I not blaming my friend for Thai Airways decision to change to the Airbus.
The flights are full at the moment and we wanted to go next week.
We paid £650 each, for that we get the full 30kilos baggage allowance and a 90 day open ticket, we come back in July.
BM I've flown with Lufthansa and done a similar short stop off in Munich.

That sounds like a good deal with 30 kilos and a 90 day ticket. Those 747-400s were worn out anyway. Thai had to change sometime and they can't afford the Airbus 380s at the moment so you're left with something littler. No worries, so long as the engines keep going and the cabin remains pressurised.

Don't those aircraft(350 airbus) go slower and you don't fly as high as the 747-400's....? longer travel time to Thailand.... :-s

No idea - you're probably right though. Takes 11-35 (or thereabouts depending on the Captain's time of the month) to get from LHR to BKK. Might be worth a check to see if Thai have altered the travelling times.
