The animals they are killing are pilot wales, not dolphins.

Thanks for clearing that one up bob and the other facts, the title of the video was misleading. I didn't actually watch it myself but I did watch the same footage on TV before I quickly switched channels. Saying they're dolphins would certainly cause more alarm and reaction, however dolphins or not I still think it's horrific.

Do they have storage devices like refrigerators or freezers in this area or do they live like cavemen? Surely food could be cultivated and preserved for the winter months without the need to slaughter whales.

I just hope I'm not reincarnated a pilot whale, if so I'll avoid the Iceland region.

I also disagree with hunting for sport, killing an animal just for fun is rather perverse IMHO but killing to eat is simply nature.

I whole heartedly agree with you Roy. Trophy hunting is the biggest waste of life. Killing Bambi, Yogi, Boo Boo, Bullwinkle to fill the freezer and feed the family. As long as entire animal is utilized, not a problem.

Where the Danes methods may not be the most humane, at least they are using the whole animal.

The most shameful and cruelest that I have ever heard of though, are the Asian shark hunters. They capture the sharks, cut off the fins and turn the live animal back in the sea to die. All for the delicacy of shark fin soup. If I had the means, I would sink every shark hunters boat I could find.

Pilot whales are taken for food in the Faroe Islands. Both the meat and blubber of pilot whales have long been and continue to be a staple part of the national diet. Catches of whales are shared largely without the exchange of money among the participants in a hunt and residents of the local district where they are landed. The pilot whale hunt in the Faroes is, by its very nature, a dramatic and bloody sight. Entire schools of whales are killed on the shore and in the shallows of bays with knives which are used to sever the major blood supply to the brain. This is the most efficient and humane means of killing these animals under the circumstances, but it naturally results in a lot of blood in the water. It is also understandable that there have been many strong reactions to media reports and pictures of the hunt in other countries, especially in urban communities, where most people have never actually been witness to the slaughtering processes from which their own meat derives.

I will eat just about anything if it tastes good, if a Lassie burger tickles the old taste buds then so be it and the method of slaughtering is irrelevant, dead is dead.

The problem I have is when they take the family pet without consent. Imagine having a pedigree that cost you thousands and some little arsewipe comes along and steels it for a hundred bhat profit. Anyway, if you have to eat dog, kill it yourself, not buy it back afterwards

a chicken takes 15 weeks to mature to full adult hood , to be of a good weight and size to go to market . what i should say is it should take 15 weeks !!!!! battery farmers in britain and probably europe have got this time down to 7 weeks . this is done by forced feeding and a special diet . fair enough , untill you realise that the chicken is gkept in a cage just big enough for it grown size , never sees daylight or smells fresh air , and because its growth is accelerated its bone structure cannot support its body . its legs are too weak and frail to support it , so it cannot even stand up !!!!!! but i bet everyone eats chicken , and never considers it short life as cruel . but a few whales being slaughtered into perspective what !!!!!!!!

If it makes you feel any better they poison themselves when they eat the meat from whales, dolphins etc. just google mercury in whale meat and see. There are recommendations that pregnant women and children shouldn't eat it.

Both are cruel IMO. I never buy battery farm eggs or chicken meat for that reason. Free range is the way to go, humanely killed of course.

I totally agree with Lee and like him only go for free range chicken. And as most of us here, prefer my meat to have been killed "nicely" (fast and as painlessly as possible).

Farao Islands are a part of Denmark as is Greenland and the people living there have their own cultures which unfortunately include the killing og the Whale Dolphins and Seals. IMO,All killing is cruel and selfish,but that is the nature of life!Some people are just more selective depending on their personal preferences and predjudices!Some need to preach moralistic values to convince themselves they are different in nature,but they are not,just differents buttons and needs!

IMO,Those that seek and accept spiritual essence and values,focus more on suppressing these natural instincts,to varying degrees depending on the seriousness of their convictions and motives,but their preferences,predjudices and fears still show their natural instinct!

Give them to me then. I'll make myself individual of the damned island lost in the middle of nowhere. I will never piss them off, never set foot on the island in fact, and just ask for a contribution to my royal expenses of 10 Euros per habitants per year... 48 000 of the bast... heu... royal subjects ... that will make a nice 480 000 Euros income per year. Should be enough to sustain a royal life in Udon no ?

I went to Reykjavik two weeks ago and did some Whale watching before I raced in the Reykjavik Midnight Run. Next day, my Icelandic mate asks if I want to eat Minke Whale steaks in a restaurant and I thought yeah, wtf, why not. Tasted good, so good that I brought some back home with me.

Iceland kills 50 Minkes a year. They believe stocks in the ocean are sustainable - nobody's complaining.

Well the meat I ate in the restaurant was on kebab sticks with red/green peppers and onion. Obviously they barbequed it for me. It tastes like a very rich beef, a dark red almost purple meat.

The stuff I have brought home is a marinated steak (two of) but my mate didn't tell me what it was marinated in!

I've also tried that rotting shark stuff they eat (is it Hakari?) and the half a sheep's head Icelanders like to have when they're on the beer. Ate Puffin on Westmannayer Island off Iceland.
