If you are silly enough to think you will find real love in a go go bar (well it COULD happen but what are the odds) or an internet dating site, and if you REALLY believe that you can love someone after a few MSN's and the parting of a few grand over the internet, you deserve everything you get...

IMO real love (remember only a word) comes from chance meetings in public, in the real world... not from paying a bird to be your wife .. and that is the same all over the world....

If love is just a word, why are you so caught up on the whole real love thing? What makes you think that anybody either marrying a girl from a bar or from an internet dating site is looking for real love? I would think they are primarily looking for companionship in life. I doubt anybody dating/married to either lives in cloud cuckoo land and has visions of riding off into the sunset on a white charger blissfully in love.

My son met his Thai/Lao wife via an internet dating site some 3 years ago. At the time of the 1st meeting it was quite clearly indicated that the aunt and uncle in Australia would determine if the relationship was to develop after determining their mutual suitability. This was a drawn out process. The time line has moved along and they agreed to marry. At that point l did not believe that there was a deep abiding love from the daughter in law. However over time and the respect that our son has shown his wife and her son has seen a blossoming of love and affection within the marriage. The highlight for us was the warmth of their mutual love when they announced at a recent family dinner that there was going to be an addition to their family. In our son's circumstances the answer is a resounding yes.

This subject really isn't rocket science. Wandering around the dating sites on the internet could well find someone a compatible partner that has a happy ending.
Whereas, entering into a whorehouse is a different thing altogether, and the motive is self explanatory.. $\:D/$

Can someone explain to me what a 'whorehouse' is exactly?

Is it a go-go bar, a beer bar, a sports bar, a hostess bar, a massage parlour, a Paddy pub or some other establishment? Do the girls have to fill a quota of punters for the month or are places where it is up to the girls if they go with a customer included too? I suppose one could include Robinsons if that is the case or even Universities.

I'd just like some clarification so I know if my missus is a dirty old slapper or a nice young lady.

A whorehouse is a house of ill-repute, a brothel, a den of inequity, a chicken-shack, baan galee (house of prostitutes). It could serve some of the purposes you use in your first sentence but that is not the main function.

Google it or use a dictionary.

The Animals sang about it in 'The House of the Rising Sun'.

Galee? Yeah, now the secret is out. He'll know what they've been calling him all this time. Kind of like Thais saying sir เซ่อ (suah) to farang.

I would have to say, yes it is possible. I found my wife on a dating site almost 5 years ago. [-o< We have been married for 3.5 years, now. She is a total sweet heart. 3rd time's the charm.

I have been communicating with a Thai lady for several months now over an Internet dating service and plan to continue getting to know her for the next six months before coming to Thailand to meet her in person. So far she seems like an honest loving person to me. She has never asked for money or even hinted at it. She tells me she lives about 30 km outside of Udon and works in a rug factory during the week and helps out on the family farm on the weekends.
I picked her because she seems to be an honest lady with a good heart and is 42, which is about as young as I would dare trust any woman wanting to hook up with an old 61 year old guy like me to be.
I plan on retiring to the Udon area with or without this this lady, so I figured I win either way. After the first of the year when I finally arrive in Thailand and meet her, I will let you all know how it worked out.
