It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

There is a time to laugh and a time not to laugh, this is not one of them.

We are here on earth to do good for others.
What the others are here for, I don't know

At the end of a long life dedicated to teaching mindfulness, the Buddha,
who probably had his share of followers who were hoping he might make
it easier for them to find their own paths, summed it up for his disciples
this way: "Be a light unto yourself."

Several weeks ago Jingjai started this thread with this comment
Since we have two popular joke threads active on the forum, how about something a little different to also read and post on daily. Here are my "inaugural" offerings, please add your own offerings.
Not all the posts have been very profound but I find all postings on this thread very enjoyable and look forward to reading this thread daily.

THANKS JINGJAI

Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared.

Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.

Do not pursue the past.
Do not lose yourself in the future.
The past no longer is.
The future has not yet come.
Looking deeply at life as it is.
In the very here and now, the practitioner dwells in stability and freedom.
We must be diligent today.
To wait until tomorrow is too late.
Death comes unexpectedly.
How can we bargain with it?
The sage calls a person who knows how to dwell in mindfulness night and day,
'one who knows the better way to live alone.'
Bhaddekaratta Sutta
