Hmm, not good news.
Received an e-mail the other day about Airbus. Didn't read all of it, but the jist was that there may be a problem with the composite materials used to construct aircraft these days. Hence the delay with the latest Boeing plane.

http://avherald.com/h?article=41befd4e&opt=0Crash: Yemenia A310 near Moroni on Jun 29th 2009, impacted ocean
By Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Jun 30th 2009 06:21Z, last updated Tuesday, Jun 30th 2009 06:57Z
A Yemenia Airbus A310-300, flight IY-626 from Sana'a (Yemen) to Moroni Hahaia (Comores) with 147 passengers and 11 crew, disappeared from radar while on approach to Moroni about 6 minutes prior to estimated arrival just before midnight (20:59Z). The airplane was on the outbound leg of the instrument approach and during the turn back towards the runway, when it disappeared.
On Tuesday morning (Jun 30th) a boat discovered debris of the missing airliner in the Indian Ocean. There are no sign of survivors, several bodies have been sighted.
The airline reports 142 passengers and 11 crew. The Comores Foreign Ministry said however, that number was incorrect and 147 passengers were on board.

Fookin hell.......just imagine you are getting ready to land, seat belts tightened everyone seated, cabin lighting on, plane decending, you've checked through the seat pocket in front of you to make sure you left nothing in there....then.......
Lets hope they find out why it happened.

Re: Another airbus goes down.
Turning finals is the most dangerous manouvre.. Although if it was on computer control then no problem, but if the pilot was flying manual then this could explain it... The plane is doing a 180 very low and very slow, very very easy to lose speed or height depending how high it was!!! This is one of the most practiced manouvres by Private pilot trainees.... So easy to lose it if your not 100% concentrating...
I have a friend who flew airbuses for china airlines and he was in trouble if he landed manually as it uses more fuel than the computer...
But who knows the cause, just a theory!!!

Re: Another airbus goes down.
My daughter worked as a flight attendant for Gulf Air out of Bahrain when one of their Airbuses when down on approach into Bahrain about 9 years ago. I don't remember the details but, as I recall, it was a computer glitch. The pilot was trying to land and the computer wanted to take off. My daughter lost 3 of her close friends that day. Not long afterward, 2 more Airbuses went down with the same problem. If things happen in threes......
Re: Another airbus goes down.
"Turning finals is the most dangerous maneuver.."
Turns during instrument approaches are all at standard rate or less and should not be a problem for a properly instrument rated pilot.
"I have a friend who flew airbuses for china airlines and he was in trouble if he landed manually"
I had a pilot friend after several years flying buses was transitioning to the DC 10 and he mentioned to me the need to find someone that would let him fly their plane (probably a hint to use my 210) so he could reacquaint himself with the art of flying.

Here is some good news...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ml_yemen_plane_crashComoros immigrations officer, Rachida Abdullah, told The Associated Press that a child was rescued from the sea. She said that three bodies have also been retrieved, along with debris from the plane, but that no other survivors have been recovered so far.
Abdul Qader, the Yemeni official, said the child was 5 years old.

Have a mate who pilot's boeing 737's,he told me that pilot's prefer boeing's to airbus, which are called scarebus in the industry.Next time you fly in a airbus take notice after point of rotatesion she will tilt from side to side and shudder until about 9000ft caused by a design fault in areodynamict's of body. The delay of the 380 was caused by mistake's in software for wiringharness of each section preventing connection during finale assembley.Let us hope a 380 does not go down.I will only fly boeing, refuse to fly airbus for about 6 year's now.
Re: Another airbus goes down.
Actually 737's (in the industry known as "fluf's") have one of the highest incident totals of all the commercial jets, but there are more of them. We have to be careful because most incidents are pilot error rather than design flaws in the aircraft.

jetdoc.i am pulling this from memory so i am open to correction,i do not question your post for one minute.Would it be fair to say a lot of 737 incident's have occured in older craft bought by developing countries where maintenance might be cost driven rather safety and used on domestic route's where C.A.A regulation's are not easely enforced.jetdoc wrote:Actually 737's (in the industry known as "fluf's") have one of the highest incident totals of all the commercial jets, but there are more of them. 747 man 2 xnax 4 snipes red wine and enjoy flying aboard a marvel of avation, waiting for 787 dreamliner myself.
Re: Another airbus goes down.
ULM, Good point, I don't mean to infer they aren't safe or less safe than other types. We used to call Beechcraft Bonanza's "forked tailed doctor killers". The Bonanza is a very good A/C (I preferred my 210 could out climb and go faster but also burn more gas) and acquired the label simply because doctors were to busy or didn't take the time to maintain proficiency. In general when traveling on commercial A/C the bigger/heaver the flying machine the more experience the pilot will have (not necessarily in that type) just by the nature of the game.

jd.
When i first started flying,i dreaded every trip even 45 min dub to lon was a nightmare,my first longhaul's to bkk hell everytime i swore never again then i found eva and for some reason perfect walking around, looking out door window ,it became pleasure and i took an intrest in avation the whole concept is truely amazing ,the logestic's behind every flight, design assembly everything. The high light of my flying was about 3 year's ago,as i checked in at eva desk i was given a upgrade to premier laruel from evergreen class, chuffed i headed to the gate, one of eva's new 777's one of cabin crew told me this was it's 3rd in service flight,i was thrilled.I am just a passenger ,i read a lot and surf the net,i am no expert just a fan.

Yes Scott as you know i owned one of them there doctor killers.. Buddy Holly died in the same type... Mine crashed on worthing beach, no-one hurt. It was an engine problem, a conrod decided to escape from the aircraft... But hearing more about this airline seems they were not very good on safety and maintenance, banned from overflying or landing in a lot of countries.. Bad weather, dark oclock at night and maybe half his jerk and whistles not working!!! Not good!!!jetdoc wrote:ULM, Good point, I don't mean to infer they aren't safe or less safe than other types.
