after bangkok udon is paradise, yes ! the farangs are moving north , easier to get out or cross the border  joking aside it is more sociable in udon especially if you mean to be part of the thai community and obey the rules just a little bit,its easy to get along and enjoy, you only get out what you put in ENJOY STAY SAFE. khun tom

More foreigners than Thais in the Central Plaza?!? Really?!? You must be counting Isaan/Lao people as foreigners then.

Enumerate and articulate these vast differences between Lao and Isaan people, culture, language and so on.

Do not forget that until the late 1950s Isaan and Isaan people did not exist in Thailand. For census purposes the people in northeast Thailand were counted as Lao who spoke the Lao language.

My understanding is, and I can be mistaken, that Farang is derived from a French word, and refers specifically to caucasians, i.e., Laotians are not farang. Farang has come to be translated as "foreigner", but not all foreigners are farang. By the way, sometimes the word can be used as an insult, when used with certain adjectives. (I was told the expressions to listen for, but I forgot.) I don't know Thai very well, but when I hear people referring to me as "falang" with a snooty expression, I respond "mai chai pollemi. bin khun, kup"..with a smile, of course

Apart from the other halves coming from Udon, the infrastructure has caught up with other places in Thailand where white foreigners tended to settle, like Chonburi Province, and Krung Thep. The availability of food items, pussy, and goods and services which were not easy to find in Udon about 8-10 years ago. Look how things have changed, fabulous housing projects like Cellini, excellent shopping facilities, with more coming on stream soon. Chern Chim and the Book Shop along the same road. Much more private cars on the road, and now real Taxi's with doors and four wheels just like Krung Thep. There is confidence in the air. Just look at all the new moobaans going up around the city.
