SAYINGS

Post by Doodoo » April 24, 2024, 8:58 am

"My philosophy is: What people say about me is none of my business.
I am who I am and do what I do.
I expect nothing and accept everything.
And that makes life easier.--
We live in a world where funerals are more important than the deceased, marriage is more important than love, looks are more important than the soul.
We live in a packaging culture that despises content."
Sir Anthony Hopkins

In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution is a moral & political evil in any country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages.

Remember when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It is only painful for others.

The same applies when you are stupid

And who else would give us a quote like this'?

Quote??? I thought this was the sayings thread.

'A quote is the exact reinterpretation of something that someone has said or written. The person concerned is known and often mentioned. A proverb on the other hand is a saying that dates back to medieval times. The person who said or written is not known, and is commonly referred to as a proverb.'

Hope this helps,

Oh, dear, -- our pedant tendencies seem to be getting the better of us. I didn't see any mention of proverbs in this thread. And quotes versus sayings?
A quote is something we know was said by one particular person

A saying is something where we don't know who said it first, but now lots of people use it
Do people here feel the need to distinguish between them and exclude quotes based on the thread title? Udon Map certainly won't be removing any posts here because they are direct quotations and thus not consistent with the thread title.

I don't see any need to remove anything at any time unless it is racist or against forum rules. I think there is a quotes/quotation thread already, which would appear to be the appropriate place to post quotes. However, if the Sayings thread is more or equally appropriate, so be it. What do you think?

I have no problem with quotes being posted in the Sayings thread or vice versa.
