UDON NANNY RAPED BY MOTORBIKE TAXI DRIVER ON FIRST NIGHT AT WORK
A woman from Udonthani province who came looking for a job in Pattaya with her husband was raped, on July 12, 2008, by motorbike taxi driver on the first night that she had managed to find work as a nanny in the same building as her relatives lived in. The rapist threatened to kill her if she told anybody and is now missing.
Pol.Lt.Col.Wallop Gangtaratip, Pattaya Investigator, received a report on, at 2am, July 12, that a woman had been raped in a rented room, located opposite Gra-Prao-Dang shop, Soi 7,South Pattaya and sent a team to investigate. They arrived at the room to find Ms Mai (alias), (22), from Udonthani province, wearing a pink nightgown, crying and complaining of a stomach pain from the attack. Her husband and relatives were soothing her. The two boys, one 3 and the other 5-years-old, that Ms Mai had been looking after were asleep in the room, too.
Ms Mai told police that she and her husband had just come from their home town to look for work and had been in Pattaya for only 4 days. They were staying with her relatives. It was Ms Mai's first day of work as a nanny, taking care of the two sons of the owner of Room No. 4, Miss Pui. Miss Pui had gone out to work at a local beer bar in the early evening and was expected back around 3 am.
Ms Mai said that she had fallen asleep in the room with the two children. She was woken at around 12.30 am by the sound of the door being opened and thought it was Miss Pui returning from work. However, it was a motorbike taxi man, later identified as Mr.Uen, who was plying his trade in front of the apartment. Apparently, Mr. Uen knew Miss Pui quite well and forced open the door to come in. Miss Mai asked Mr. Uen if he had brought Miss Pui back home, but Mr. Uen did not reply to her specific question, only telling her that he had liked her from the first day she had arrived.
Mr. Uen then threw himself at her and tried to kiss her. She tried to resist, but he punched her heavily in the stomach, twice. She was then thrown onto the bed and straddled. Mr. Uen warned her not to scream, otherwise he would kill her and then covered her mouth his hands. Following this, Mr. Uen raped her, while the two children were still asleep.
After she was raped, Mr. Uen threatened again that she would be killed if she told anyone. He also bragged that he had been living in Pattaya a long time, knew many people and that nobody would dare touch him. After that, Mr. Uen made his escape.
Even though she was still suffering from having been hit severely in stomach, Ms Mai put on her clothes to go to her husband's room to tell him of her assault and to get him to report her rape to the police. Later, Ms Mai related to police how she and her husband had been looking for work in Pattaya for only a few days and how when she had eventually found work as a nanny, she had been raped the first night. She told officers that she was hurt both physically and mentally and was feeling ashamed, both for herself and her husband that it happened to her. Her husband then begged the police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
Police officers then took Ms Mai to the station to record the incident, after which they took her to Banglamung Hospital for a physical check up. Mr. Uen is known to police who will ask around among local motorbike taxi drivers to try and locate him. In addition, Miss Pui, the owner of the room would be questioned as she apparently knew Mr. Uen very well, as she used his taxi service to go to work regularly. Police hope to arrest the culprit very soon.

It's really not the farangs that are the problem here, it's the lowest rung
of the Thai population that come to escape crimes in their home province
or trade drugs or engage in assaults/robberies other types of crime.
It seems like every other week some young girl, home alone or temporarily
not with a parent undergoes a similar encounter with a Thai male here.
They are attacking/robbing other Thais. Chain snatchings, kicking women off
moving motorbikes, home break-ins, anything and everything goes.
As a group, the motorbike taxi drivers come in a close second to the ladymen
as a general nuisance and cause of a considerable number of problems. The
ocean breezes can still be had but now no other good reason to visit Pattaya.

According to me, this story of today says it all about Pattaya and what it has become...

POLICE VOW TO CRACK DOWN ON GUN-HAPPY MOTORBIKE GANGS
Every weekend, almost, it seems Pattaya is plagued by massive gangs of armed motorbike racers, hundreds strong, intent on causing mayhem. They regularly challenge each other to Mad Max-like races, almost always ending up with one or more being shot dead or seriously injured. Yet, again, on the night of July 13, 2008, there was an shooting incident with 1 death and 5 injuries.
Police suspect that, apart from the armed gangs, there are also irate individuals, heartily tired of this motorbike racing menace, who also arm themselves, lie in wait and take the opportunity to blow away members of these gangs.
At 01.30 am, on July 13, Pol.Lt.Col.Jakarin Tou-suparb, Banglamung Investigator, was notified that a six motorbike teenage gang members had been shot and injured. The gunshot victims had already been taken to Banglamung Hospital for treatment. The Chief-of-Police was informed and police team went to investigate.
At the hospital Emergency Room, police found the 6 injured teens: Mr.Sakda Namloon (16) shot in his left leg; Mr. Surasak Gnao-sri (18) shot in his left arm, right leg and in the head; Mr. Nattapol Ronruengsak (18) shot in the stomach; Mr. Wongwan Maliges (18) shot in his right arm; and Mr. Narin Keao-gaew (16) shot in the body. Most of these teenagers had sustained minor injuries; however, Mr. Twin Tengwises (21), who had sustained a serious stomach wound, had later died from his injuries.
Apparently, most of the injured teens were friends who live in Pattaya area and the periphery. They had come out on motorbikes to watch a motorbike race by other racing gangs that is usually set up on Road No. 331, every weekend, near the Pattaya International School under Banglamung police jurisdiction.
After the race was over, the friends and others were riding home in groups. Suddenly, around the Pong sub-district Bridge and Krating-rai Road, a number of armed motorcyclists and a blue pick-up truck started chasing them, took a number of shots and then escaped. Many of motorbike teens were injured and some managed to reach hospital.
Police know well that most Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and days off, groups of boys and girls in teen gangs congregate and then engage in motorbike races. Each group has at least 20 to 50 people on motorbikes and they generally cause a hazard and nuisance to locals and car drivers on the road.
Each time that police try to arrest them, but they spread the alarm among themselves and manage to evade capture. Usually, they parade their motorbikes, modified for road-racing, on Road No. 331 and, very often, they get into fights or start shooting each other. There have been many deaths and injuries in the past among these gangs. But this time, they were shot by a number of mysterious gunmen who were on motorbikes and a pick-up truck.
Police assume that these gunmen are people who have reached the end of their tether as regards the mad antics of the teenagers and acted as vigilantes, mostly shooting to scare, rather than kill. A police spokesman said they aim to crack down on these motorcycle gangs to avoid a repetition of the shootings; they already have numerous individuals on record. Police will continue to search for the perpetrators of the July 13 shootings, who will be prosecuted if caught.
I guess none of you grew up in Brooklyn or alphabet city in Manhattan or even the Bronx

Oh yea, I grew up in the Queens part of New York city. I saw things on a daily that kids should never be exposed to. You sort of get hardened to the ugly side of life and grow up thinking its normal. We didn't have cable TV, actually it wasn't invented back then, so much of the outside world wasn't available for us. We thought our life was normal. After I graduated from NYU, I finally moved out of the city to another state and that was when I began to adjust. I only visited home on holidays and never lived there again.
Pattaya is just a large whorehouse for farangs. The crime scene there is somewhat sensationalized by the media and the local law enforcement doesn't really know how to handle it. Its not something they have seen or have anywhere else in Thailand. All in all, Pattaya is still a nice place to visit "IN THE DAY TIME".

No I never grew up in a 'Violent City', but every city / town has bad elements, it is just that Pattaya, being a tourist town has more than most, not helped by the fact they many tourists are ignorant of the true facts and not careful, which makes for easy pickings.
You are right Thais are bringing it down by themselves without any help from us, it was not helped by the influx of Russians, who seem to have dissappeared off the radar, that showed Thais what could be done, so they do it.
Also the Thai lack of welfare puts many people into the firing line in order to make a living and the strong always prey on the weak.
Pattaya is bad ..YES, but we all need it to improve, and to make especially sure that UDON does not go down the same path.
