Just to add one thing to Jimbos piece which sort of clarifies what he is saying.
The Central group are mostly retailers and normally hive off any connection with hotel management to those in that line of business. Thus , while owning the Chareonsri Grand they are actively seeking a partner for the hotel. Whilst I understand there are prospective brides, a marriage doesn't seem to be in the offing. The reasons for this are twofold. Firstly most hotel chains are either European or American controlled, therefore the exchange rate, although getting better is still not favourable to a large investment in Thai baht.Secondly, and this has been played down here in Thailand. The TOT forecast for upmarket travellers over the next twelve months has been drastically reduced over this years, already low figure. The reasons cited being mainly the extra cost of travel and a shortage of money generally owing to higher inflation world wide. There are other factors which we as residents could cite such as political uncertainty etc.
If applied to the whole project, a massive scaling down or even some postponements could be a possibility.

Wow, they've just leveled the entire side of that street? It seems like I remember an outdoor garden shop, a couple of internet places, some coffee house and
even an R/C store on that strip not to mention a couple of restaurants?

So what will be going-up in it's place? I suppose I could go back and read this
thread from the beginning but I have to be candid with you, I'm too fu_individual lazy
and it seems like a lot of unnessary reading? Okay, I'll go back 2-3 pages. 8-[

Ask the council to erect a bronze statue sitting on the Aussie Bar bog. It would complement those fine statues in Nong Prajak Park at the other end of Wattana Nuwong road.

I still find it a little funny that the "big boys " are crossing all their ts" and dotting their Is', and there is"three guys with a couple of crowbars " cleaning it up. What a joke.Have you walked through there on a hot day, guess where the new washroom is for all the tuk tuk drivers, its on that load of drywall thats been soaking it up for the last three weeks.Enough to make one gag! God I love this country !!

Look at the first photo and see the same old double parking and confusion. I would think that if leveled quickly, and cleaned up,and a couple of loads of gravel, ( maybe even throw a couple of shovel fulls in the holes on the parking lot side.) That maybe more people would come to shop, DO YA THINK! lol.
And why is Robinsons ,spending all that dough to upgrade, and then one is continually on the lookout for broken and missing tiles from within the mall? C'mon a guy with a bucket of grout on evening shift could fix that.
Nope there is a little dna problem going on and it is a riot to watch, ain't it !!

The first thing I thought of, when I saw LA's photos was Bette Davis' famous line (forgot the name of the movie):
"What a dump"!

I know I'm a dreamer, but. Wouldn't it be nice if the owners of that eyesore erected a 2-3 meter wood fence on the street side facing the mall. Maybe give separate sections of the fence to different schools and let the art students create a mural depicting Udon/Issan life and activities and history.

Go ahead, call me a dreamer, a romantic idealist. :D

The TOT forecast for upmarket travellers over the next twelve months has been drastically reduced over this years quoted form above,
One I have stayed at the Chareonsi and do not think many top business travellers ( european or otherwise would stay there, however I may be mistaken.
I agree that mnay problems have risen since Central have purchased the site but we forget that also includes the road, so anything is possible.
Still no update on delays but have been told to wait and see.
just for info.

These are very nice photo!

Looks much nicer at night, and much cleaner since they knocked down the buildings.

A nice landscaped grassed area with palm trees a water feature and cafe or coffee bars would suit nicely.
