I believe that these particular kids (who sell flowers in the bars of Udon) are orphans.
Their uncle 'takes care' of them & sends them to work in this manner. I am guessing here, but it is quite possible that the uncle would not take care of them if they were not providing an income for him..
As far as the nationality of the perpetrator I do not care - just happy that someone had the sense to realise what was happening & the interest to phone the police & make the arrest happen.
I hope he is punished to the maximum extent of the law (but feel that he will undoubtedly "pay" for a lesser sentence).

Gentlemen before we get into a quandry about who did what to whom and the whys and wherefores, we have an allegation of Child Molestation for want of a better word.
it has not as yet been proven, although I DOUBT IF THE REPORT IS TRUE IT WILL BE OTHERWISE.
We are castigating Thai adults for allowing children that young to sell flowers.
It is in Thai law , that this is illegal, so why gentlemen are you perpetuating the offence by buying from the said children and why do I ask are the police seemingly inactive about what is child abuse and something even worse like child slave labour to put it into easy english.
Thai's do as a matter of fact abduct children and take them to work making and sellng trinkets for tourists to buy.
So before we castigate the alleged offender ( whom I have no doubt, deserve the full weight of Thai justice to descend upon him from a great height) , let us also think about the poor ( I say that literally) defenceless children, who we as nice people , assist in their repeated calls to our bars by buying their wares, Ok maybe we wont stop it, but we will in our small way put out the message that, abuse of children will not be acceptable in establishments where farangs frequent, and we can say we tried to change attitudes. It does occur to me however that someone was pretty on the ball notifying the police of the child's exit in the farang pickup, including the registration number. Now I have got a rather suspicious mind so the following scenario has occurred to me. Many have said that these flower kids are normally being observed by their minders. So Is it not just possible the uncle agreed to her going, notified the police and will now negotiate a substantial settlement from the farang for dropping the charges, of which I presume a percentage will be offered to the police for their prompt assistance with the arrest.

10 baht for an old rose that no-one wants. I noticed that she had become a much more 'agressive' seller during the course of last year, between my visits to Udon. I think she is now ready to sell something more in demand, unfortunately. I presume she will be moving south in a few years; I wonder how many Pattaya sob stories she will be behind in future.
