Proof of Address letters

Post by tamada » April 21, 2024, 12:52 pm

I need a couple of letters from immigration for proof of address in Thailand, one in Thai and one in English.

Apart from me and my passport, do they accept the pink ID car and yellow book and Thai DL, or do they need something more like the hosting blue tibian bahn, wife's ID cards, witnesses or other useful idiots, etc.?

What's the charge for this service, and which time/day is recommended?

The letter is supposed to be free (or was) but I paid 200Baht last year. Takes about 15 minutes and time of day is typically "luck of the drawer". I doubt you will get one in English, probably need to get it professionally translated. I take Mrs Dero with her blue book and ID and I just use my passport (don't have a yellow book or ID).

Cheers BD. Yes, they are supposed to be free but with these impoverished paper shufflers, needs must.

The last time I needed these bits of bureaucratic wiff-waff was when I lived down south and Jomtien immigration did offer Thai or English versions.

I'll bring the blue book and the missus's ID and see how far I get.

I take my Thai wife with me for that type of thing. We are legally married and she always brings her house book. I don't have a yellow book although I have tried to get one. There are not many farangs here locally and I'm sure they don't know how to make the document. They always think of a reason I have to go to Bangkok. A friend of mine lives in a different larger area. He got his book in one day. I went there and was told I HAD to use my local amphur.

Dropped by at 13.40 and they were still a bit busy but they took my documents and said it's 1000 THB for the letter in English. I agreed and left the docs with them while I went off to get the sports lorry inspected and pay the road tax.

Returned at 15.12 and collected the one thousand baht letter and documents.

For info, my recent paper chase was once again driven by my UK offshore bank's ongoing desire to know where I live (tax domicile). After much faffing about, including misinformation from their own due-dilligence people, yesterday they advised me, "Thailand is a jurisdiction in which we cannot accept government documents from and therefore we cannot accept your driving licence as proof of address."

There you have it. They consider Thailand to be the corrupt ----- that we already knew it was.
