Tories new leader
Re: Tories new leader
C'mon Alex, put your money where your gob is and tell us which one of the remaining five nominees you would consider best qualified to lead the Conservatives out of the abyss?

Perhaps its not just me Tam.
Why can't you address the subject matter and tell us which one of the remaining five nominees YOU would consider best qualified to lead the Conservatives out of the abyss?
Once you've managed that, we could explore why you chose them and all learn from this massive knowledge of all things political in the UK that allegedly lives between your pixie-like ears.
Or, you can blether on about Steptoe and Starlin till the coos come hame, and remain wallowing in your pit of Tory mediocrity.

Steptoe has now joined hands with 4 pro-Hamas independents demanding all sorts of extreme actions against Israel.
Starlin is just the same weak kneed Marxist he always has been. Where are his statements of outrage after Notting Hill? Real murders and rapes will huge numbers of police assaults but not one word from him or his Marxist cohorts.

Again no Marxist or extreme left wing sources in the above link.
There's nothing I can do or say on who will be the next leader of the Tory Party so just another rant from you using up bandwidth.
Can you tell us what policies 'you' think are proving Starlins promises that his new version of Liebour that will serve the people have come up with or proposed in the couple of months since they have been put in charge by 33% of the electorate.

Re: Tories new leader
Moving right along and on topic...
After Patel was eliminated, the remaining five candidates will be keen to bolster their second-round votes with some of the 14 that voted for her. She previously positioned herself a key torchbearer for the right when she served as home secretary under Boris Johnson, before being somewhat eclipsed by Suella Braverman. Her failed leadership campaign portrayed her as more centrist but that may not have fooled many, hence her demise. So I wonder who will benefit from swinging some of her supporters to their camp?
Meanwhile, Jenrick's campaign moves him away from being centrist and more to the right: the opposite of Patel's failed strategy so maybe he's onto something?
Apparently, Patel's war chest for her leadership campaign was the third biggest after Jenrick and Badenoch. It included £70,000 from major Tory donor Lubov Chernukhin, a businesswoman and wife of a former deputy finance minister in Putin’s Russia. I wonder if these donations are refundable?

Re: Tories new leader
The Torygraph is a tad conflicted this morning (my emphasis).
James Cleverly is public’s choice for next Tory leader. Shadow home secretary narrowly outperforms his four rival candidates in head-to-head polling, while Keir Starmer beats all five hopefuls.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/20 ... anta-poll/
One third of shadow cabinet backs Kemi Badenoch for Tory leadership. Shadow defence and business secretaries say their conservative colleague has the X-factor and can ‘cut through’ to voters.

Dont see Cleverly as any kind of favourite either MPs or members. Badenoch favourite with the semi intelligent MP's but honestly think she's a shade too dark to be Middle Engerlunds choise. There you have it though Alex, Cleverly is apparently the PUBLIC's choice. Since when has the electorate's opinion ever mattered to the Conservatives? They've even patented the unelected Prime Minister role.AlexO wrote: ↑September 9, 2024, 3:28 pmDont see Cleverly as any kind of favourite either MPs or members. I'm glad that you mentioned that Kemi's race could be an issue going forward. By the same token, I guess James is buggered as well? Or maybe his being male makes him a tad more acceptable? I read that a lot of men feel intimidated by a clever(er) woman, regardless of their skin tone.
Jenrick... or something that rhymes with "punt".

You seem to be under the illusion that I am some kind of dyed in blue Tory. Personally I have no time for almost all politico's, just less time for some than others. I voted Tory once back in the early 1980's. I just hate the extreme side of politics such as Steptoes absolute support of the IRA and any other terrorist scum. Bliar took us into a illegal war as a self aggrandisement exercise. Broon was just a loon, seriously the man should never have been allowed near power. Cameron was a perfect example of the professional politicos that are destroying the UK. Infighting, self important halfwits (and I mean that) started the rot in the Tories with the assassination of Boris and they are suffering now. We now have previous Marxists who claimed the are now Serving the People. My arse, and they might have on performance to date have a fairly short reign unless they build more prisons.
PS
Good to note the cops are saying they could have done better policing the Pro-terrorist protests held every week.
I am not being racist or anything like it but you have to admit there are a good few millions of lighter shades of grey uncomfortable with the image of the UK being from ethnic minorities.

Another Asian Rape gang found guilty of abhorrent crimes against young white girls, one as young as 11.
Police say they did not give serious attention back when first reported because they were afraid of the racial tensions it would have caused (Same as the DPP when Starlin was top doggy).
Just think you get 20 months for shouting at a police dog and around 11 years for the repeated rape of an 11 year old, a bit strange yes/no.
Noted that Starlin has not appeared on National TV shouting for maximum sentences for the guilty.
DPP says many more cases to come to the courts over the next 2 years! 2 Tier policing/sentencing in full technocolour.

Re: Tories new leader
Mel Stride eliminated which is a shame as he never had a chance to officially launch his leadership campaign. Upside is he probably saved himself a ton of money and us a lot of bandwidth.
So four left as they head to their party conference at the end of this month in Birmingham, where they will make their campaign speeches and in early October, two rounds of MP's balloting will see two of them shown the door. The party membership will then be invited to vote between the final pair at the end of October and on 2 November, Rishi and his missus can jet off to California.
Maybe it's the media but the four "remainers" are studiously keeping their heads below the parapet and not being quoted on anything related to the gild rapidly coming of the Labour party's lilly. With their rather shoddy taxation bait and switch since gaining the keys to #10, followed by the collosal toe-stub of their early release folly, plenty meat on the bone at their first PMQ for whoever assumes the mantle.
Despite being painted as a commie and a Guardian reading luvvy, I hope that whoever takes the helm in the Opposition has more help in keeping the incumbents in check. This is the primary duty of the Opposition, rather than the infernal, internal pissing contests that led to their epic downfall (but I doubt it).

Re: Tories new leader
The slightly more centrist Cleverly makes a "shock" exit ahead of the two-horse race between the two right wingers.
It appears that some Tory MP's hadn't quite worked out that strategic voting doesn't work nearly so well with such a small "electorate".
Now the full membership will be allowed vote on the results of their chosen MP's dipsh*tery.

So you're saying we are not allowed to respond to your many, many posts on your left wing offerings. Just not supposed to

Re: Tories new leader
To keep it all "fair and balanced, the following from a media outlet that isn't anywhere left. It shows how the gormless Tory clever(ly)dicks, who shot themselves in the foot with their tactical voting charade, will now spoil their final vote ballots in a childish tantrum. Rather than bite the bullet and offer their party members some semblance of unity and leadership, they're fighting like rats in sack (again).
For our RT averse member who considers the BBC and Guardian opinions as just more commie propaganda, note the following from the linked article.
"It comes as a blame game erupted over Mr Cleverly’s shock elimination from the race on Wednesday. Furious Tories blamed MPs for “freelancing” in a misguided game of tactical voting, while others pointed the finger at Grant Shapps, Mr Cleverly’s campaign manager known to track supporters on a spreadsheet."
Wow... Tory infighting. Never heard of that before, eh?

Re: Tories new leader
Given that the right of center voters tended to vote Reform its not surprising the Conservatives have moved in that direction. The Centrists are hardly going to vote for the Marxist Liebour in the next election so perhaps not a bad idea.
Re: Tories new leader
The Conservatives will he trying to win back the voters they lost to Reform with their illusion of realignment. I'm not sure it will work though. When they broke the 'red wall' under Johnson's deceitful promises, they didn't put up much of a fight to retain them. Mind you, by that time, they had pretty much rendered their own future hopeless.
My mate in the UK switched to Reform and for now, he is unrepentant on that matter. He's disaffected with both of the leading parties.
Did the MP's vote for the leader that their electorate wants, or did the MP's vote for the leader they think the electorate needs? There's some talk of Jenrick causing a stir by suggestions that he will pursue his original, more centrist agenda if elected and his current right-leaning rhetoric is just a ploy to win the leadership contest.
Nothing new under the sun for EITHER of the two dominant UK political parties.

Not too sure if it was Boris's promises or the unacceptable alternative of voting for the terrorist supporting, Marxist, Liebour Party under Corbyn, Abbot, Starmer, Rayner etc.
Bori's tenure was tainted by Covid lockdowns which caused huge problems for private industry and the overall UK economy.

Re: Tories new leader
Covid impacted the whole wide world. Using that as a subterfuge for an immensely incompetent premiership and a fractious party riven with bitter, internecine fights doesn't really hold water any more, especially after the Covid inquiry upheld most all of the allegations of poor leadership, mismanagement and evidence of corruption.
It may have geen tainted by Covid but it was already poisoned by Brexit.
But that's purely my opinion and I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise or suggesting that anyone believing otherwise is wrong.
