So a reluctant Unionist and a fervent Nationalist both laid claim to a rather selfish and increasingly impractical concept that only THEIR generation has the right to elicit opinion on fundamental constitutional change?

Outwith the Brexit debacle, the sheer dynamics of global changes suggests that pontifically claiming the singular right to decide on something so profound is just so much statesmanlike but ultimately empty posturing.

The wee shepherdess was voted for by slightly less than 1.25 million voters in Scotland from a voter base of 4.3 million. So effectively 3million + people did not vote for independence. This will be reflected if they ever have another referendum.

Agree with your extrapolation of the figures, I was pointing out that while the SNP have had a good general election and have won back a few seats that they lost in 2017 in my humble opinion they did because as in England, Labour Scotland has almost become unelectable. When have you ever seen just one Labour MP from Scotland. The 3 million plus voters who did not vote for the SNP and some who did will take a different view when the breakup of the UK and Monarchy is the question. Again just my humble opinion.

Reading on how Johnson is planning to enshrine his 11-month, 'no dithering' EU trade deal-making edict in law, I can already hear the natives over in the ever lovely Gina Miller's camp getting restless.

The erstwhile, undercover Remainers and the EU both claim that the Conservative's stated intent to get a deal done quickly is quite impossible. But beyond the will to deliver, consider what else is needed to make such a comprehensive, win-win deal. Bureaucrats, pencil necks, paper shufflers, translators, lawyers of various flavors, trade experts, academics, business and industry mandarins and a whole lot of coffee.

It is a lot of work but between the UK and the EU, there are pretty much infinite resources in all these areas of expertise and plenty places for them to meet. Rather than wringing their hands and suggesting it's all too hard, start identifying and hiring the specialists required to support this very necessary exercise in ensuring mutually agreed international trade.

Getting back to the SNP's new referendum call based solely on the number of constituencies they won. It is deeply flawed logic to call that a mandate for Indyref2 when the actual vote count is analysed instead of seats won.

SNP = 1,242,372

All other parties (excluding the Brexit and Other candidates) = 1,496,316

Even if you add the Brexit Party's 13,243 votes and using the SNP's own, unscientific reasoning as to what constitutes a mandate to possibly leave the Union, more people voted NOT to leave the Union.
