A not unexpected large upward jump in numbers, even though the per day is approaching 4,000 a 2 week rolling average would be a better indicator as the jump is probably due to the Christmas drop.

Here is a 14 day rolling average showing the slight reporting dips but the steady rise and continuing rise in USA deaths

While the latest death toll could partly be an artificial result of the delays in the US system it is horrific that they have now breached the 4,000 level. You can see that though the 14 day average is under the 7 day it is clear that the trend is going up and will continue for the next 1 month possibly as long a rise as 3 months partly due to the appalling slow rate of immunisation.
The Washington Post is reporting that ambulance crews in Washington county have been told not to transport patients who they think have little chance of survival, some ambulances are said to have been turned away from hospitals.

There is a single item of good news. That is that while there is a very very small chance of reinfection it is such a low risk that it’s close to zero and of the very few people who have presented with symptoms that could indicate COVID only a few of them have been tested positive and none have been serious.Los Angeles County has been so overwhelmed it is running out of oxygen, with ambulance crews instructed to use oxygen only for their worst-case patients. Crews were told not to bring patients to the hospital if they have little hope of survival and to treat and declare such patients dead on the scene to preserve hospital capacity. Several Los Angeles hospitals have turned away ambulance traffic in recent days because they can’t provide the airflow needed to treat patients.

There is now a second day of well over 4,000 dead this suggests that the number is less of an artefact, also since people are being refused hospital admission who will certainly die there is no surety that the deaths will be correctly reported,

And from Next Wednesday THIS.......Race to reach UK before Wednesday: 100,000 Brits abroad have five days to get home or face being banned without negative Covid test - as Heathrow boss warns it will be another hammer blow to industry
Travellers to be banned from entering the UK from next week if they do not have negative test
But there are concerns in the travel industry some will be stuck away on holiday with little time to get back
It is expected to cause a scramble for return flights before Wednesday as 100,000 Brits are abroad
Are you rushing to get home before the testing rule comes in? Email martin.robinson@mailonline.co.uk or tips@dailymail.com

Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
Regrettably, though predictably, even with the fact that the yesterday’s, and before, figures will be increased the rolling 7 day number is now over 3,000
As predicted there have been updates again and the numbers are up, with a record high of over 300,000 cases, and the 4th consecutive day with a report of over 4,000
If there were any doubts about serious cases being refused treatment in the USA, in LA California you can check for yourself.
The U.K. is now reporting that patients can not get the full treatment that they need and that soon if not already intensive care decisions will not be decided on medical need only.
So some NHS trusts will shortly be making similar choices to some of the USA hospitals.
In simple terms “you are too sick, your chances of survival are too low, you will not be given intensive care, you will die”

The second week in a row that there is a new record high for USA deaths of almost 4,500. Terribly sadly it’s looking as if a 5,000 death day could be happening soon.

Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
There is reasonably good news from the USA on the infection point of view in that the speed of increase is slowing down, though it doesn’t look as if B.1.1.7, B.1.351 and P.1 have yet started spreading so celebrations would be rather premature.
