Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
So the Thai authorities are desperately trying to track down over 700 tourist who have arrived from Africa in the last couple of weeks. Perhaps they should try using the Mor Chana Tracking system? Are they ALL sleeping rough? If not then the Landlords or hotel owners have filled in a TM30 for each and every one of them within 24 hrs of them arriving at their establishment (or face a B10.000 fine). Finding them should not be difficult
Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
Did anyone who arrived recently actually install the Morchana app? I was never asked for it.
Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
Thailand's not the only one looking for people after the fact. Australia is going further saying Australian citizens, permanent residents or their dependents who have been in South Africa in the past 14 days must undergo supervised quarantine for two weeks regardless of vaccination status upon returning to Australia. I am sure a lot of other nations are revisiting their strategies as well. This has been set off by the realization (recent confirmation?) that Omicron has probably been 'out and about' for a few weeks longer than last week's knee-jerk reactions would indicate and the travel bans on SA and nearby nations are totally unnecessary.stattointhailand wrote: ↑December 2, 2021, 11:49 amSo the Thai authorities are desperately trying to track down over 700 tourist who have arrived from Africa in the last couple of weeks. Since this is the first test of every country's passenger health screening and their track/trace efforts against a new 'variant of concern', I am not overly surprised. At least this has given the perpetual Thai bashers that post negative comments on every Bangkok Post news article something new to moan about.

Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
tam, all the officials in Thailand know who they are looking out for. They have to be reported by their hotel/landlord within 24 hrs of arrival with their passport details, which means at worst case scenario they are within a certain designated area (assuming they are moving on every single day), and yet they still can only locate 3% of those they are looking for in almost a week.??
As far as I am aware it is NOT an Australia/UK/US etc requirement to "check in" within 24 hrs of changing your location. It shouldn't be difficult to find them all within hours of starting to look here, after all they can locate a random Burmese suspect spotted riding an old motorbike on CCTV camera in no time, and most Burmese look more Thai than yer average South African

Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
This is Australia these days.
Appears no one wants to give advice anymore in case they get their butt sued or they simply do not know or whatever.
For months now, the family have been trying to get information on the effect any vaccine may have on my aging parents with their usual range of health conditions. Hospitals, doctors, specialists nursing staff all the same results, we'll have to check and get back to you, which never happens.
With the way this virus can travel, all this waiting around is just ridiculous.
We have been lucky so far in Qld as there has not been any large outbreaks but this will definitely change when things start to reopen.
Finally found this site from the UK which, in my opinion, is excellent.
Answered all our queries. Thought others might benefit from it so posting the site here.
Cheers.

Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
Some gems from the CCSA that may be of interest to those making plans to come to Thailand or travel domestically over the holidays.
Foreign arrivals under “test and go” and “sandbox” schemes are the only ones subject to a maximum of one-day quarantine while awaiting their negative COVID RT-PCR test results. For other arrivals, those who are fully vaccinated will be subject to 7 days isolation in their hotels, and one RT-PCR test plus a second antigen test, effective December 16th.
Overland border crossing between the Laos PDR and Thailand will be opened in the north-eastern province of Nong Khai on December 24th. A decision on a similar opening in Songkhla, with Malaysia, is still pending.
The CCSA also decided to adjust the areas throughout the country, in accordance with their various COVID-19 situation, effective from December 16th.
The number of “controlled” areas will be increased from 23 to 39 and now includes Khon Kaen, Chanthaburi, Chachoengsao, Chumphon, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Trang, Tak, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Pattani, Prachin Buri, Ayutthaya, Phatthalung, Phitsanulok, Phetchaburi, Phetchabun, Mae Hong Son, Yala, Ranong, Rayong, Ratchaburi, Lop Buri, Lampang, Lamphun, Satun, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Songkhla, Sa Kaeo, Saraburi, Suphan Buri, Surat Thani, Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.
The 30 provinces, now classified as “under maximum watch” are Kalasin, Kamphaeng Phet, Chainat, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Sawan, Nan, Bueng Karn, Buri Ram, Phichit, Phayao, Phrae, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Roi-et, Loei, Si Sa Ket, Sakhon Nakhon, Samut Songkhram, Sing Buri, Sukhothai, Surin, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Uttaradit, Uthai Thani, Ang Thong and Amnat Charoen.
The eight tourism “sandbox” provinces include Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Krabi, Chon Buri, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Phang-nga and Phuket. 18 other provinces are classified as partial “sandbox” areas.
Eateries can serve alcohol on New Year’s Eve up to 1am the following morning in all provinces.
Personally, it's getting around time to don't panic and sit tight.

Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
"Virus Expert Said Here's Who Should be Most Worried About Omicron
Karl said it seemed like everyone he knew was getting Omicron. "Why aren't you at a more alarmed level of concern about this?" he asked Jha, who has approached this latest surge with equanimity. "First of all, it is concerning," answered Jha. "I mean, obviously infections are spreading quickly. They're rising very, very rapidly. And if this was March of 2020, I would be panicking. It would be a very bad situation. It's not March of 2020. We're seeing a lot of infections in vaccinated people, but because they are vaccinated and many of them boosted, these infections are very, very mild and that's the big saving grace. And the second—and the part that does concern me more—is that we are seeing still obviously unvaccinated Americans getting infected at very high rates. And that's the group I'm worried about because that's the group that's gonna end up in the hospital. That's the end group that's gonna end up in an ICU. So we really have to look at this in a very different light for vaccinated people. This is a very different infection than for the unvaccinated.""
Good luck to the UNVACCINATED

Actually, Jonathon Van-Tam has three rather good Christmas lectures on COVID-19 that he's developed with the Royal Institution and the BBC. JVT has become quite popular in Blighty (in his role as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England) as he has a knack of explaining things at an understandable level for Thickies like me.
