1817 – Bible Society of New South Wales was formed.
1892 – Norman McAlister Gregg, Australian opthalmologist who discovered that rubella (German measles) in pregnancy could cause birth defects in the child (blindness and deafness) was born.
1907 – The Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme commenced in southern New South Wales.
1921 – The Commonwealth Department of Health was formed.
1993 – Two prisoners, Peter Gibb and Archie Butterley, escaped from the Melbourne Remand Centre with the help of prison officer Heather Parker.
