I paid my 3800THB yesterday because I want the Moderna vaccine. Submitted the bill to my medical insurance for reimbursement today. I'm not at all insulted by the up front payment. The Moderna vaccine has some significant shipping procedures to include keeping the vaccine stored at -50deg C. This is why the hospitals are asking for upfront payment to ensure everyone who asks for it can get it and not just say they want it today but decline it later. The hospitals need to know exact numbers of people wanting the vaccine.

The letter is badly flawed. First of all there is NO US approved Covid 19 vaccine. All currently available vaccines have been approved on an emergency basis only. I can only assume that the retired military people cited in the letter have medical coverage via Tricare for Life. The military retirees in the PI are being vaccinated there because there's a VA hospital there. US embassies do not have the authority to provide any kind of medical are for anyone other than their staff. The Foreign medical Program cited only covers REPAYMENT for VA covered conditions and nothing more. I'm not sure who drafted this letter but they need to go back and do their homework. BTW I am a USAF military retiree living in Thailand.

I would suggest you register for either the Moderna vaccine (3800THB for 2 doses) t Bangkok Hospital or the free vaccine being given out by the Thai government.

Thai government signs contract for 20 million Pfizer doses

"The government has approved the order of 20 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from US manufacturer, Pfizer. The Bangkok Post reports that the head of the Department of Disease Control signed the contract yesterday. Delivery will be some time this year, but when exactly is unclear, as the vaccine has yet to be approved by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration.

Pfizer must now submit registration documents to the FDA, while Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul says the DDC has a month to negotiate pricing and other conditions with the manufacturer. Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, Anutin said the government has also received approval from the Office of the Attorney-General to purchase supplies of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine. However, that contract is yet to be signed as the manufacturer, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, needs to accept the deal."

It is about my government quite clearly saying they've no plan to provide vaccinations for expats (straight from American Citizen Services) yet planning to give away 500 million doses of the vaccine. Its also about a U.S. C17 flying into Taiwan with 750,000 doses of the vaccine accompanied by smiling Congresscritters. I don't expect socialist welfare, after all the MEDICAERE I pay for doesn't do diddly squat for me here. Its about.. haha! the Equity so spouted by the current Administration...
