Yes, for now. It will be interesting to see if he can learn fast enough to recover from this. If he hasn't got the wrong people back-stabbing him he might yet recover.

CNN had an interview with Stan Grant (ex CNN Commentator now with Fox in Australia) he clarified this result quite well.

40% of the parliamentary liberal party are obliged to vote for Abbott no matter what their inner feelings are, so this result is not a true reflection of the state of his future. He stated that Abbott is on a very fine edge.

As for our xxx (I won't say the b word) I know you reminded me BUT I still can't remember ("CRAFT" or one too many) which way I fell. Knowing my feelings for Abbott I would have said he'd be gone???

I like the comment from Toxic Tony today after the vote

Today we start having a good government

My question is, what did we have for the last 17 months then....

And this Quote was always going to come back and haunt him ....

"My Question is to the Prime Minister, Given 1/3 of her parliamentary colleagues have expressed their lack of confidence in her , how can she continue as PM " Tony Abbott - Feb 27th 2012

Problem for Toxic Tony is , his % is more than 33% .

Beware the Ides of March

I have come to bury Tony , not to praise him.

Whining Bill Shorten, come on down, your time has come ............. well not exactly!!!

It seems this intelectual witnit (apologies to Manuel from Fawlty Towers) actually moved a motion and delivered a speech in parliament fully expecting Turnbull to be PM.

Whining Bill somehow failed to understand that Abbott was not deposed, but proceeded to attack Turnbull. It required a point of order to bring Whining Bill to his senses, well almost, some things are more difficult than Mission Impossible:

"Mr Pyne: Speaker, I rise on a point of order. The Leader of the Opposition appears to have taken the wrong speech from his office today. Perhaps they were not prepared for the outcome of this morning’s meeting? He clearly appears to be talking about the wrong member of the chamber and you should draw him back to the motion, which is about the Prime Minister."

Whining Bill Shorten - the alternative Prime Minister - oh deary me!!!

And as for Tanya "Cats Ar$E" Pliebersek - the less said the better.

The governing Liberal (sic) Party of Australia in turmoil, too scared (for the moment) to cut out their cancerous, immensely unpopular and lying Prime Minister ............. but hey, LOOK OVER THERE - aren't the opposition terrible.

Bill Shorten an economic Pontius Pilate:

"Given that Shorten’s knowledge of money mostly comes from marrying it, he could perhaps use some remedial economic education. It is by no means extreme to seek a balanced budget or to aim for a budget surplus."

"This from the man who was a key player in the knifing of the last two Labor prime ministers.

In 2010 he undermined Kevin Rudd to engineer his replacement by Julia Gillard, who rewarded Shorten with a cabinet post. Three years later, short-term loyalist Shorten turned against Gillard and said he would resign from cabinet if she prevailed in another leadership brawl with Rudd.

Abattoir workers have less blood on their hands after a 12-hour shift slaughtering haemophiliac cattle."

"Oh, and the occasional food shop worker. Voters may recall a “brutal attack” by Shorten on Melbourne’s Annie Huang, who was behind her deli counter in 2012 when the then-workplace minister dropped in for a pie. None was available, leading to a fit of Shorten rage. Following Shorten’s eventual apology, Huang still felt understandably distressed.

“(I’m) really, really scared because he (said) to me, ‘you lost business’,” she said. “What mean this, lost business? I was just talking to my husband, (I’m) really scared. I say, ‘why he say I lost business’?”

There’s your champion of the workers, right there."

I gather that's a Murdoch hatchet job on Shorten? I thought Murdoch might be positioning himself more between the Libs and Labor now. I note he isn't a fan of Peta Credlin. Who other than the captain is? I hope the captain eases up on the micro-managing. Tories shouldn't be doing that.

Its a problem isn't it which reminds me of one of the most popular debates at British Universities.
If the only two candidates on the ballot paper are Benito Mussoline and Adolph Hitler, who should you vote for? I only ever attended one of these debates and the consensus was you shouldn't vote. However I don't think that's an option in Australia is it. By the way I'm not suggesting the 2 candidates are remotely like BM or AH.

Yes, it is an option.

You are generally required (in theory) to attend at a polling booth on election day, have your name crossed off the list of electors, and you are then handed the voting slip(s). What you do in the booth is entirely up to you, after which you place the slips into the appropriate ballot box.

There is no way of knowing if you have voted, either formally, informally, or at all (ie left the slips blank).

Another choice is
get by your name crossed off and put the voting slips in the bin
did it once for a local election
some people got cross but so what
my reason for doing that was I had to vote but didn't know anyone as had just moved there
as it turns out that vote was as good as the rest of them
waste of time
local pollies feathering their own nests

Well a US think tank thinks Abbott is shockingly incompetent:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia/ ... think-tank

He's lucky this report didn't come out a week or so ago. Presumably Murdoch doesn't fund the think tank.
