I dont have a vested interest - there is plenty of decent accomodation in Nong Kai. Huan-Lai 042-413597 (close to the danish baker), Janhorm Apt (042-460293): for those looking for music/night clug - go to the Thai-Laos Riverside 042602637 (similar price range as the Pantawee but no internet) ....no reason to stay in the tourist traps... it is a rule when you travel: for some reason one always ends up intially in the traps.-...Paul wrote:The last time someone started slagging all the hotels off in one town - it turned out that he had a vested interest in one of the others - funnily enough
I wonder if this is the case again -

Stayed there in the block near the "pool" twice now on seperate visits.BangkokButcher wrote:I would have to recommend the Pantawee hotel:

Nice enough rooms and you even get a pc and dvd player in your room, just incase you need them .
Last one a few weeks ago the room internet did not work. Various suitably frowning "workers" came to try to solve the problem at various hours of the day/evening.
Every one of them left & shrugged their shoulders. Even mentioned it (after 4 days of people trooping in & out of room) to reception counter staff in front of the katoey boss & the GM was there as well. They couldn't give a rats arse about my question - you pay for the services as part of the rate...the dvd player wasn't working either & neither was the PC/DVD in the next room...
Will not be recommending it to anyone, the food was crap & "service" in general was below that.. stay elsewhere from my humble opinion.

My two cents about Pantawee:Pantawee has got a HIGLY obnoxious drunk manager (flamingly gay..not that would matter). I think he he is involved with the transgendered owner......depending on how you get along, your room rates vary...
Also, there is considerable night traffic at the hotel - and the staff makes sure they are marking up those services ...lots of real low life hanging out there...
The ADSL service is intermittent...no one knows anything, except a kid that somehow keeps it running. ADSL cables in the rooms are often defect...(I had to venture out and get my own cable).
The Pantawee is completely overpriced for what it is offering...I would stay away and use anyone of the almost free internet cafes that actually let you plug in your notebook computer for around 30 baht/hour...
My advice: stay away from the dump!
Have to agree totally with the above - the management at Pantawee is
rude and a little hostile, the staff seems to hate working there,
and the katoey owner is just downright mean to everyone. She seems to
particularly despise foreigners. Also, the rooms, service and food are much
more expensive than elsewhere in Nong Khai. To be fair, the farang food
is pretty good though.
About Mut Mee:
Your mileage may vary, but I really like it there. The mosquito are a
huge problem, yes, but a little DEET takes care of that. I have always
found a great mix of people there, and I like the food. Some of the rooms
are rustic, but the charm of the garden makes up for it IMO.
There is another place nearby Mut Mee called Dick and Dao's, which
is a bar that also rents rooms. I've dropped in to have a beer a few
times, the couple that runs it is pretty nice. Never stayed there, though,
so I don't know how nice the rooms are.

Around the fullmoon in October you won't be able to get a room if you haven't made a reservation because of the Naga Fireballs.
I don't recognize it.Whats the name?businessman wrote:That million baht is just for the fixtures and fittings:
