I understand that the new riverside promenade in Nong Khai is going to be extended, as far as the bridge.
That's from near the pier/jetty where it currently finishes, down (or should I say up = upriver) to the Friendship bridge.

Wow,first I have heard of that! What is your source? It would surely cause a great increase in land value,as there are several riverfront plots for sale in that area!arjay wrote:I understand that the new riverside promenade in Nong Khai is going to be extended, as far as the bridge.

Re: Nong Khai Riverside Promenade Extension
I heard from a local businessman about a year back that approval had been given, but as I saw no evidence of any work, said nothing. It then cropped up again recently in conversation in a local bar, when discussing some improvements being made to the river bank near them, and they said that it was part of the bigger plan.
As with most things in LOS, I guess the real proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
Good for cyclists, eh?!

This bit of inside information wouldn't by any chance be related to today's date, would it?

No, it wasn't an April fool.
There's quite a bit of work going on along that part of the river edge, which I assume is related to it. There's also a large area of land being cleared just after the Thai Laos hotel, which also fronts onto the river.

We stayed at Mut Mee 12 months ago and there was both conversation by staff and written concerns regarding the proposed extension of the promenade. At the time l thought it would impact on the outlook from Mut Mee towards Laos.
