ROOM AT THE INN - NONG KHAI?

Post by Lady Farang » May 10, 2007, 5:47 pm

:?
Greetings all. If anyone is on line today can you please give me a current recommendation of economical but pleasant/central place to stay in Nong Khai. I thought I would stay at Mee Mut, it sounds v. nice, but they did not reply to my email booking and when I called today were not able to tell me if they would have a room for me in two days'time. I am flying to Thailand tonight, and to U/Thani on Sunday afternoon, and slightly concerned that I don't know my way around, or where I will be staying... Help please - at least to get started? Thanks  !

Welcome to the Forum, Lady Farang.

I've often stayed at the Huan-Lai Apartments. Modern, clean and nice. They are centrally located and near the Indochina market and Mekong river, 400 baht per night, with AC, cable TV and hot water showers. Not all roooms have a fridge, so ask if you want one. 24 hour reception. Banks and restaurants close by.

It's located at 823 Bunternhchit, Tel: 042 413597 or 042 413596.
English is spoken and local tuk-tuk/jumbo drivers will know the place.

You can get mini-bus transfers to Nong Khai direct from Udon airport,(150 baht) - just tell them the name of your accommodation.

Good Luck. :D

I forgot to say, don't worry, it's low season, they won't be full, so no need to book.

If you want to try other places there is a Guest House a few doors away down the same road. I forget the name but you will see it from Huan Lai. Again I would recommend it, - about 500 baht per night, set in small gardens, with small cafe. Also the Janhorm Apartments in the next (parallel) street.

I would recomend the Huan-Lai first followed by the Guest House, a few doors away. :D

Yes, looking at the weblink you gave, it is the same place, a few doors down from Huan Lai. There were rooms/bungalows at 400 baht and 500 baht when I looked. :D

Many thanks for your prompt replies. Maybe see you around? I am coming to look for business opportunities in Thailand generally and have a Thai friend in the NK area so starting there to combine a visit. PM me asap if you would like to meet up? Thanks again.

I live in NK and know most all the places .If you are a woman a travelling alone, the Mut Mee is a good fit,lot of EU women stay there, they have yoga which is popular with their regular patrons. If they appeal to you, they are the most likely to be full,IF,any are full, because they are well advertised worldlwide!

If guest houses w/garden patios are your thing, there are 3-4 very close to the Mut Mee ,with excellent recommendations,to choose from. These are on the ''walking'' street. My neighbor is partners with his sister in a new 2 story on walking street called Kiang Kong 300-400B.
Huan Li in always a good choice,400B.
You will not have a difficult time finding a room.If the Mut Mee is your preference ,I would take a tuk tuk there, give the tuk tuk driver an extra 20 baht to wait and continue on down the waterfront to the other guest houses or Huan Li.You will have a minimum of 10 options.
If you like swimming and 1000B is in your budget, the Mekong river hotel is my rec!It is a 60 baht tuk tuk ride from town though, but quiet and peaceful with very good accomodations.
The NK Grand hotel is the other with a swimming pool, less scenic but it is located on the main highway 2-3 blocks from the center of town.1000B range, popular with upper class Thais!
Bottomline, you will have lots of choices ,nuch better than booking ahead unless you personally know the facility!

Hi,

Does anybody remember having seen the NONG KHAI bus station near its hotel ?

I am looking for a cheap room, around 500thb, close to bus station if possible.

Also, if you know a place with good WIFI internet, even not so close to bus station, i am interested.

thanks a lot.
