The benefits of a lawless society
Don't try this at home (by home I mean home country), I left with 9pts on my licence, it's clean now, but I had to emigrate to clean it :-" :-"

The Thai highways are brilliant once your away from built up areas. If you're into biking I recommend a drive to Chiang Mai and Doi Intanon.

Nice vid Glyn ...i see you traded the 250 in ?
Re: The benefits of a lawless society
Yes the 250 went the moment the 650 was introduced to Thailand, you could still tour on it with 2 up, but the question is how long would it last, plus it wasn't so comfortable on long distance. I actually did my longest 1 day travel the other day on the 650 Bae Bay on Ko Chang to Udon (800km), my record before that was Chiang Rai to Udon (725km) but that was with the misses on the back.

Fukin amazin,
Give you guys topics about bars, girls and the rest of the usual crap you lot talk about and it'll get replies for pages and pages. Start a positive topic on the benefits of living here and how we can exploit the system for a bit of fun, and not one of you have any experiences/stories/benefits to offer.
The thread was a 2 prong fork, cos not only could people share their exploits, it also hinted at Motorcycle touring up and down (and across) the country, yet again nobody had 1.any other destinations or info to offer, and 2. nobody is interested in motorcycle touring in Thailand otherwise there would have been some info seekers among you.
Before any of you want to rant about my comments, think before you speak, I and many others already have opinions of many of you (let's just say "need to get out more" is the common theme) so I shouldn't have really expected a response from any of you, I mean - "WOT, leave Udon Thani, what are you thinking I find it hard to leave the house"
Whatever - I think Thailand is wasted on most of you. TALK TO THE HAND GUYS COS THE FACE AIN'T LISTENING.

Is this is what as known as attention seeking?
Surely if your thread is of interest to other members they will respond - otherwise it will die a natural death. =D>

Re: The benefits of a lawless society
Well its nice to know you have preformed opinions of many of us . So in case I am one, maybe I should confirm or debunk the one you have on me . Firstly . I hate motorbikes of any size. wouldn't be seen dead on one actually. I consider them to be noisy and dangerous. I much prefer my creature comforts so only travel in air conditioned comfort when I am "out and about"' Which I am , quite frequently, just not to bars of any description, including yours .That doesn't mean I consider those that do , or even ride motorbikes for fun are to be criticized. They simply have different tastes to me . Thank God they do . What a boring world it would be if we were all the same . As for leaving the house and getting out of Udon more frequently. I must ask why? I love both , enjoy both, don't feel any need to seek pastures new, but do enjoy an occasional safari into other parts of both Thailand and the world, as indeed I am doing next month which you will have noticed if you had read bumpers candle topic.
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .
Re: The benefits of a lawless society
Oh now the threads taken the line that you all like, talking waffle back and fore to each other.
JS I told you to think b4 u speak, the fact that it had no replies and will almost definitely die a natural death is not something you should be applauding. Its embarrassing that with all the expats living in Udon, there are not enough heads who are interested in touring the country (trubrit - who said it had to be on a bike?) that this thread didn't become a success, I did tell you to think before you speak - EMBARRASSING!!!
But hey as long as your computers are working and the internet connection is good, who cares about getting out and seeing the country (BORING -HUH)

Re: The benefits of a lawless society
Glyn, Had you thought that perhaps the reason you had few replies was that those who like to get out and about, are just that, - out and about, and therefore not at home to answer/respond to your interesting post/travelogue!
In fact I've just got back in, after a sortie out and about!!

Re: The benefits of a lawless society
If this thread had actually housed a discussion of benefits of a lawless society that would have interested me. I would have said that it would be better if the theme was a society without government agents to apply state law. Customs and traditions may be defined as laws. One of the American colonies in the 1700s went without a government for four years without any problems.
I'm one of those who do not ride a motorcycle, not even as a passenger. It is too dangerous IMO.
Good luck with the thread.

We obviously have different views on what is embarrassing.Glyn wrote: JS I told you to think b4 u speak, the fact that it had no replies and will almost definitely die a natural death is not something you should be applauding. To me, filming yourself riding at 180+ kph on a motorbike, (presumably with your wife on the back), weaving in and out of traffic at 100+, placing the video on Youtube backed by indecipherable noise, and then describing it as a "benefit" of living in Thailand, is embarrassing behavior.
And then to follow up with a second post because presumably you didn't believe you were getting the attention you deserve/desire is extremely embarrassing.
Re: The benefits of a lawless society
Glyn, if you start a thread that everyone thinks is a load of cr@p, no one will respond. Just take a look at OT's history.
Talking about motorbikes, I love them and ride mine about in Thailand from time to time, that's if the wife hasn't sold it whilst I'm away at work. There is a U tube video of a guy jumping his motorcycle on to the roof of the arc de triomphe, which was mad and lawless enough, and then he turned his motorcycle around and jumped back off it. That got a few more people interested than a cr@p thread like this.

Re: The benefits of a lawless society
Actually Glyn I sent your Vids to my work to show the Lads cause I love Bikes and I think Thai Roads are great for Touring. However, you never gave your thread a chance before getting upset with people, which is a bit presumtious of you. There are a number of groups in Udon who do rides, maybe you should get in touch with them, Ray 23 comes to mind and the Big Bike Club for a start. Good viewing by the way, hope to do it myself one day soon =D>
Re: The benefits of a lawless society
I rest my case guys, thanks for the most positive post Aardvark. I've ridden out a few times with the eagle-riders, lovely bunch of lads. The rest of you can all go back to your "normal" lives and let this thread die a natural death. I think I'll go for a ride out to Sakon Nakon then over the mountains to Kalasin, that's a beautiful ride. Sorry I tried to get some blood pumping in your veins, should have known I was flogging a dead horse.
And JS I haven't filmed myself or my bike, I filmed roads, so that people who have never done it can see how good the twisting, mountain roads are here in Thailand, and of course the beautiful scenery. See you all assume that everyone who views this forum actually live here, truth is many are planning their 1st visit - as I said earlier Thailand is wasted on most of you.

Well Glyn,,,,,,,,,,,, after reading the title of this thread/topic, your posts, and viewing the video,,,,,,,,, I can definitely see an emergency room visit for you and your passenger in the future. Hope you make it.
P.S. Hope you have great insurance.
Your opinion to get out and see Thailand and all it has to offer is on the money but to each his own,,,,some have already done it and being seniors, are ready for a more sedate lifestyle,,,,,,regards,,LL

Re: The benefits of a lawless society
I am 56 and have been a biker all my life, own a harley and a 2009 vmax in Canada and ride a 750 honda shadow here in Thailand. Being able to ride here in the winter is one of the reasons I live here 6 months of the year. A person is either a biker or they are not. If someone does not have it in there blood they will never understand what it is about. Yes it is dangerous but we take our risks with living our lives the way we want. Everyone dies, not everyone lives.
Re: The benefits of a lawless society
I love anything about motorcycles.I presently have an hd softail springer.I can't wait to check out some of the roads and highways in LOS.
