Just a heads up. This concert is tomorrow night Saturday 6th. Its been a sell out with 10,000 tickets sold . So expect congestion in and around the Center area. Starts at 6.00pm, finishes 10.00pm. So expect a lot of traffic.

Udon has a 10,000 capacity concert venue? To put that into perspective, the maximum capacity of the Royal Albert Hall is 5,250, but is usually limited to 4,000 for safety reasons. I hope it all goes well and everyone has a good time.

Hyde Park had about 350,000 for the Pavarotti concert a few years back .......... someone made an absolute mint from selling bin liners at 20p each to act as temporary raincoatsrreddin wrote:Udon has a 10,000 capacity concert venue? Yes my wife, kids and I went. It was packed. Firstly let me say that the 1k seat price I quoted was apparently a sponsor price, which I didn't realise.Other seats were 500bht. I was surprised at the number of young kids there even at that price. It was in fact a truly family concert. Everyone was given an ice cream in a bun and a bottle of water at the start.waanjai wrote:Has anyone actually attended this concert?
I only saw one other farang in there .It started as most things in Thailand seem to do, with presentations to the local bigwigs from Wang Song Mor who were the beneficiaries of the proceeds to build a new sala complex for the community. After about an hour of this it moved into the show proper, starting with a singer accompanied by the inevitable troupe of highly decorated dancing girls, which I personally found a bit boring but the locals enjoyed. Then it moved on and when Miss Tookie came out to a tremendous reception it really got going. It was purely in Thai so a lot of the spoken comedy was way over my head, but then she went into an audience participation mode inviting 10 young kids to join her on the stage, her obvious rapport, combined with a really professional sense of timing, had the audience , including myself , in fits of laughter. A very funny lady indeed. She really worked her audience for a whole two hours .After this Mike Pilonphorn a local , but widely acclaimed singer, came on and again the backing dancers gyrated around the stage. For me this was a bit of an anticlimax but the girls loved him, although the young kids got restless. The final act somehow didn't make it, having gone to Ubon, not Udon by mistake, so a group of males dressed as women, entertained the audience to their normal brand of emphasised feminity. Not my cup of tea but I seemed to be alone in this reaction .In summary I am glad I went if only to see my wife and kids laugh so much. An observation though. Why do people use these cumbersome tablet things to make videos when there are much smaller choices available?

Because they are expensive, and having one shows face, where a point and shoot camera on the video setting does not.
Look how many Thais buy a SUV on 10 year credit terms, only to park it under a grimy wooden house on stilts with a dirt floor, a pile of bald tyres in the garden, a scabby underfed dog, and filthy outside council gritter. Face.
Good review Val. =D>

Same motivation here, once in a while. When I accompany my wife to the Morlam Talok events. Too much Thai-Isaan and much too fast for me, though the comedy is often very simple. I am more in favor of the Morlam music concerts, even Morlam sieng.
