Nongkai Aquarium
Nongkai Aquarium
My Thai teacher went to the aquarium in Nongkai recently.....the photos are impressive. Last I went there probably 9 years ago, there was little to see. Now it appears they have a very large room size aquarium. Anyone been there recently with photos and some info to share with others?

Nongkai Aquarium
Last time I went was not long after you .... probably 7 or 8 yrs ago.
Can remember plenty of tanks, with pretty murky water and not too many varieties of fish
Probably down to the fact that if they gave fish out of the local rivers clean water it would probably poison them
There were breeding ponds outside that I thought were pretty impressive at the time though.

Have been there several times in the last 2 years. Any friends visiting it is on my list of places to take them as it is very good. Lots to see with the big tank as big as the bog standard Thai house which is part of the walk through bit, if you are lucky the diver may be cleaning the glass & will wave to your kids & stay in the background if you want to take some pics. As well as the closed in tanks there are towards the end of your visit many large open tanks although you are not allowed to touch the fish & some like the Alligator Gar you would not want to, worth the drive & small entrance fee, could probably spend 1.5 hours in there.

Similar to Ant2's experience we've been there on numerous occasions to take the village dek-dek or visitors not from this area. Quite often we would find school buses parked in the lot as the aquarium is a favorite spot for school groups.
The video posted by pomps pretty well covers the attraction. I believe the aquarium is closed on Mondays. Worth the short drive to Nong Khai.
