Chinese New Year!

I'm no expert on Chinese New Year, but at Nong Bua Lake they're getting ready for what looks like a big celebration. The guard told my wife it's on Thursday, Friday, Sat and Sun. I don't know when, but imagine we'll drop by around sunset.

I hear there's an even larger celebration taking place downtown- maybe somebody knows exactly where? I went there a few years ago, and could not believe a little town like this had such a huge, amazing, and festive celebration- just loved it!

As you can see, I don't know much. Can anyone fill in the details?

perhaps somebody has seen it on the local TV?? I'm never able to get any details on local festivities and parade times or routes....

Best info I can get is tonight around 6 or 7 PM on Prosi Rd in the vicinity of Ngee Soon market there will be a parade.

We went to the downtown festival yesterday. Very few falangs, but a zillion Thais. Starts around 6:15 pm with a big parade and fireworks. Food vendors everywhere. A stage show. GO- it was fantastic!

How do you get there? Drive downtown and park near the Clock Circle. Or Papagalos Restaurant. Then follow the crowds. Tonite (Sunday) is the biggest nite, so I would definitely go then. Have a great time and tell me about it!

Nice pics TB .. very colourful event (i went last year) ,,,, i should be going with the missus tonight but wriggled out of it as ,,, firecrackers not my thing , love strawberries ,,,,,, and a heavy heart for the pig ...... a night in with Bisto under the table might be the better option as hes terrified of fireworks .

We took some visiting friends to Chinese Walking Street all the way from the clock circle to Tungsrimeuang. Pretty much wall to wall people with hundreds of quality food vendors.....conveniently placed tables to eat......lots of smaller things to buy/or not........and lots of folks walking around in their Chinese New Year clothing.
If you wanted to meet the middle/upper class from the area, this was the place to be......no offense to flip flops, but I can't recall seeing a pair there. Matter of fact, most people appeared to be wearing their 'going to church/party' clothes.
Lots of the food vendors were from the bigger hotels/restaurants around town....probably some of the best 'street' food I've ever eaten in Thailand.

The word "Aspire" was to be seen everywhere tonight.....lots of folks walking around in Aspire t-shirts and a bevy of girls waiting to do some sort of skit on stage with Aspire placards. The condos go on sale in less than 2 weeks. All aboard!!

And finally....for those who groan about modern music....the stage activities began with a group of about 15 very young girls dressed up in very traditional red Chinese dresses...they danced a very traditional Chinese lotus flower dance.........followed immediately by about 15 very young girls dressed up in very modern shocking yellow bottoms and shiny black tops......while they danced to some modern hip hoppish sort of dance. Oh, if my grandma had seen that instead of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.....she would have cursed the new generation and their wicked ways.

Udon should do this more often!

Was down that way earlier ,, packed out just as the festivities began ,,, now slipped un noticed back home i see its on the home cable channel ,,, lots of lovely old ladies doing a cat walk fashion show dressed in traditional Chinese clothes ,,, my missus says they its a whos who in the hiso Chinese business owner community strutting their stuff ,, nice to see the fancy costumes etc glitz n glamour ,,
