Playing Bridge
Re: Playing Bridge
Pass is a Bridge call when you do not wish to bid. 'Count pass one' is not even an English phrase. Do you mean 'count past one'? Players can count points, can count winning tricks and can count losing tricks. Are you referring to one of these hand assessments? Or are you referring to the players at the table?

Good to see lym has chosen to comment on an issue with such an authoritative statement. Whoops.. lym has zero knowledge and is just lashing out. Like barney he is a keyboard coward.

You make me laugh RC.
This coming from the ultimate coward. Unlike your cowardice nature( let’s call it lack of intestinal fortitude) and your constant use of derogatory names on UM, hiding behind your desk top of many monitors to all and sundry, I would always be willing to stand face to face with any member for any comments I make. I’m not nasty like you.
I’m sure the good folk in the bridge club had a smile when you finally walked.

Re: Playing Bridge
Barney butted in and made some totally false assumptions. His bile is historical and he has zero knowledge of what is being discussed here.
First of all I am perfectly happy to repeat anything I say on here directly to anybody
Secondly, I do not sit behind a barrage of monitors
Thirdly, I did not have a single cross word with any of the members of the bridge club at any time
Fourthly, the other members (including Rick) sent emails expressing their disappointment that I had left
and Finally, the individual who insulted me is in very poor health, rather than lashing out at him either verbally or physically I simply walked away and sent an email resigning
Barney's ignorance of the situation appears to be no impediment for him to butt into something that is none of his business and did so behind a cowards keyboard

Re: Playing Bridge
DM,
No problems, you didn't pretend you knew anything, just some fun pics.
To add a bit more clarification.
Rick is in fact a very nice guy, as are all but one of the Bridge Group. As I said before, the game was supposed to be for fun and enjoying good company, I miss that. Only one guy is deadly serious and wishes to play a quite complex bidding system called ACOL, with 50 years of playing Bridge he is at a very high skill level and get's frustrated when others have a much lower experience and skill level. As I explained in part with my resignation letter, I was not at the other's skill level and did not wish to annoy them them with my poor knowledge of the game.
Why did Barney step in? Barney got his knickers in the twist a long time ago when I had a shot at him for posting false information about Covid. This type of information that led too many people to fail to take Covid seriously. Misinformation from a few world leaders that should have known better, then pushed by alt-right factions before being repeated many times by people like Barney. Sadly now, around 3M people are dead, that number would have been a lot lower if this misinformation did not get spread around so readily.
Then he backed up his mate Mickojak whose posts have now been removed but stated that girls that were raped by Weinstein knew what they were doing and asked for it, treated as a big joke. Then of course Mickojak refused to pay out on a wager until shamed into it, Barney as his mate, thought he was a great guy for his handling of that.
I have zero respect for those that post misinformation and give backing to loonies like Mickojak. In this case he added to those thoughts by dishing out a spray on a matter where he had zero knowledge, and was none of his business regardless.
He keeps on extoling his virtues as an all round good guy, lots of posts where he praises himself, I think he is a prat.
Nuff said.

Re: Playing Bridge
I note that neither Rick nor Barney posted anything.
Rick because he quite rightly wants new members to join, he is a compromised. The nice guys in the group deserve to keep the group going, but might consider a change of approach. My only suggestion is if you get a new member don't bury them in ACOl until the basics are understood, maybe two weeks conventional point counting and one week ACOL, gently introduce them to the subtleties. repeat 2 weeks basics etc before going 100% complex. Bidding complex hands after two or three rounds of bidding is difficult under ACOL for a novice. Whatever you do, don't call a newby a clown if you want them to stay and learn.
Barney, however because he is a 100% prat.

About 14 years ago I used to meet my very good friend Major John (now deceased) at Harry's bar (now Chris Place) every Sunday.
They had a Bridge club with only about 4 players.
I had never played Bridge so Major John said he would teach me.
During the game he would show me his cards and after the game was over he would explain to me what he had called and why.
One of the players complained that it was spoiling their game that he should not do that.
I never bothered sitting in again as I thought who wants to socialise with arse**les who object to someone trying to learn the game.
There were only about 4 players at the time.
Never did learn the game as I thought who wants to have a Sunday afternoon with people like that.
I joined the Poker club upstairs not a good decision.
Re: Playing Bridge
same group Pal.
They complained that it was hot and wanted the aircon turned on, but never ordered a drink. Not sure if Chris told them to fu^k off, from memory he did, but it came to tears and they moved.
Same member spoiling it for the others. Let me repeat, they are in the whole, a very nice group of people.

Re: Playing Bridge
I hope should not even consider kicking they guy out, just set ground rues he is a fountain if knowledge, a very big part of his life is Bridge, it would be cruel to take that from him. He is in vey poor health, so a weekly game is good for his happiness.
Bridge is a terrific game, I would love to learn more, but it takes years. hope the group builds on that.
