that is until one american guy, who didn't participate in the dinners, took issue with the american woman who organized it each month and she started getting hassled for a work permit. it's a shame really because it was a great way to get to know people and it was all done for charity. she raised hundreds of thousands of baht which was all donated to local causes like an incubator for the children's ward at the hospital etc.
