Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Hi everyone. As we have now found a wonderful new teacher at AUA to teach Thai, I can start Thai language classes at AUA again.
Some people may wonder why we don't run Thai courses more often - well the simple answer is that it is surprisingly hard to find good Thai teachers here.
Anyway, details of the next Thai courses are as follows:
Beginners Thai: Tuesday to Friday (4 days per week, 6 weeks), 11.00am to 12.30pm (Total 36 hour course)
Intermediate Thai: Tuesday to Friday (4 days per week, 6 weeks), 12.30pm to 2.00pm (36 hours)
(pls note for intermediate, it is helpful if you can read basic Thai)
The courses will start on Tuesday 2nd March and run to Friday 9th April
Cost - 2800 baht.
If you are interested please contact AUA (next to Nongprajak park). Tel. 042 242 845, 325 776, email udon@auathailand.org, or pm me. ps. we are closed on Mondays.
Student visa letters can also be provided upon registration.
Many Thanks
Nick Dunning

Nick sign me up for a review of the basics.
Is there a corresponding English Course running in the same time frames?

So who is the new teacher?
Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Can I try one lesson first before signing up for the full course?
Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Yes of course you can.NKRobert wrote:Can I try one lesson first before signing up for the full course?
Also, If anyone is not sure if they belong in the beginners or the intermediate, they can try both - and then decide.
I am confident the new teacher - her name is Took - will be a hit.
So Mac are you going to give her a try?
Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
I'll stop by and ask Lucky.
Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
FYI, In terms of value, the course we are offering works out at under 80 baht per hour of study. Which is pretty competitive I think.

I work in the US on a 3 week on 3 week off schedule. I will be back in Udon area on the evening of the 4th. Is there any opportunity for a class that works around some not living full time in Udon?
Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Nick is a busy man, hence he does not come onto the site too often just to view.
If you have a specific question it is probably quickest to PM him as then he will get a email warning.
As far as I know Nick posts ALL details of courses he thinks will be of interest here, so, I think, if it isn't on here he probably does not do it.
In all the time I have seen any Thai/English courses from AUA they have always been in the same format as this one.
As Nick hints at the start good teachers are hard to come by & probably go onto bigger & better opportunities quite quickly once they have established a good reputation.

Sorry for not responding guys, and thanks Bob for backing me up.
Unfortunately, we only run courses during the week (Tuesday to Friday), in the daytime. The times we offer classes have been the most popular in the past, so we tend to stick to it.
If we get enough people interested in evenings or weekends, we can open a class.
Hope this helps.

Yes - You can study during the time that you are here. You can pay 500 baht per week of study - It's not ideal, but at least you are able to study.mytluky wrote:I work in the US on a 3 week on 3 week off schedule. Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Definitely worth taking the class if you feel you wish to get to know a bit more of the Thai language.
I'm taking the beginners course in a group of 7 and from what I can hear the general opinion amongst the group is very positive. We are taught both general conversation in Thai as well as reading/writing, in a friendly atmosphere and a pace with is easy to follow. I don't think you can expect to speak (or read/write) fluent Thai after one month, but it certainly helps and gives a boost to your knowledge of the language. And all of it for a price which is really extremely low compared to any other International language courses!
Regards,
Geert.

I have to agree on that Geert, see you tomorrow.
Re: Thai for Beginners and Intermediate
Thanks guys
We will start again after Songkran (27th April). The above group of 7 will go on to be semi-intermediate (same time 11.00 - 1.30 Tues - Fri), and we will start a new beginners course (tbc with teacher).
I have to say Took is the best teacher we have had and I reckon she is the best Thai teacher in udon, if not Thailand!!!!
