Went to check it out with the family. It's a 45 minute presentation offered in 3D. The 1st segment was about the human digestive system (how food is consumed, broken down and makes it's way out the other end), lasted 10 minutes. Next was a 5 minute segment discussing the astrological symbols/signs. Followed by a 10 or 15 minute piece on Thai astronomers (?), I think, maybe, my interpreter fell asleep after the 1st segment. Then a brief discussion of comets and asteroids and ending with some discussion of the make up of stars (nothing at all mentioned of our planetary system).
The presentation was mostly 3D animation in Thai. The waiting area has a a few graphs of the solar system (I think, I didn't pay much attention) a telescope on a tripod (not for public use) and an interactive display of something I didn't get a close look at.
I thought the entire thing was unimpressive, beginning with something out of context and ending with very technical or advanced information. My 10 year old thought some of it was interesting and my 6 yr old lost interest after the first 5 minutes and spent the rest of her time flopping around in her chair, like most other kids her age in attendance. My wife, well she got a good 30 minute nap.
The planetarium is located behind the new library on Udon Dutsadi Rd. Free admission and opened to the public Tues-Sun and viewing times are: 1000, 1100, 1400 and 1600.

Thanks for that Papaguido, I'll wait till the little 'un is a few years older before going.
Perhaps by then they may have improved the presentation, but there again, as you said it was in Thai, I doubt that anyone would complain for fear of upsetting them

Who knows, maybe in the future they'll offer a better presentation. The facility itself was very well done with a large front facing screen, surround sound and the ceiling has a concave feature (like an inverted dome) which part of presentation was shown on. The seats recline allowing to view the ceiling presentation, but if sitting up near the front one has to crane their neck to take it all in.

The people in charge of the Udon Planetarium should have gone to see the state of the art digital show in London's Royal Observatory, Greenwich.
To see how it's done.
What do we get in Udon.
A film showing how a turd is made.
The Planetarium that used to be by Baker Street is now part of Madame Tusssauds waxworks.

I'm trying to figure out how the human digestive system comes into play. Interesting that the name is in English only.

Thanks for the heads-up papaguido. I remember seeing a banner about the project a year or so ago but I had no idea it was already finished and open to the public. I remember it sounded quite interesting at the time. Oh well I won't be in a hurry to check it out now.
