Thank You Mosquito and Parrot

Yes Today is the beauty competitions, tomorrow the rockets take center stage.Just a word to any one thinking of going, especially with kids. Explosives and alcohol are a potent mixture and there is plenty of both here. :-"Mosquito wrote:Nong Or, Nong Wua So rocket festival today and tomorrow (small event, though fun to watch).
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

Very diplomatically put Tb .... i went once ,,, the mixture of booze and explosives indeed turned out to be eye opening , lots of fun that turned rapidly into violence .... i wont be going again tho the beauty pageant sounds interesting .trubrit wrote:Yes Today is the beauty competitions, tomorrow the rockets take center stage.Just a word to any one thinking of going, especially with kids. Just a reminder......the rocket festival at Ban That, A. Phen (บ้านธาตุ, เพ็ญ) runs from 22-28 May.
1000 rockets, lots of prizes, and hopefully, lots of rain as a result.

Rocket Festival - Ban That Dates
A man and a woman died in Nongkai this morning....after an errant rocket smashed through their windshield shortly after ignition. The male driver of the truck was looking for a parking spot in the vicinity of festival when the rocket entered the vehicle, killing a 41 year old woman. The 47 year old man died shortly after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The festival was canceled by authorities shortly after the accident.

i was in Nong Khai yesterday and heard about this .......very sad indeed.
This highlights the dangers of such events ,, usually in the news for gang fights , shootings and drunkeness .. this tragic accident should lead to restrictions in future ...but i doubt it will .... Thais playing with alcohol and explosives not a good combo imo.
I suppose its similar to November 5th Bonfire night in the UK ,,, tho that is without the alcohol thrown in ..

Of course now in the UK, all events are strictly controlled and supervised and the big thing , the bangers are professionally made not a lot of fertilizer stuffed in a plastic pipe. There was another incident last week when one turned round and ploughed through a marquee killing a young lad inside .Sheer madness. I often wonder where these massive pipes come down . I am sure they don't disintegrate .pienmash wrote:i was in Nong Khai yesterday and heard about this .......very sad indeed.
