Hi,
This is just an informal get together held once a month, a chance to meet friends old and make new ones.

This saturday's location: Chris's place. meetup at 3:30pm on Saturday 5th October. Chris's place is on the ringroad near the Kutchap turn. From Airport, head North on ringroad, past Kutchap turn, 100 metres on the left. From the north, head down past tesco's, do a U turn at the Kutchap junction, 100 metres on the left. Plenty of parking just North of his sign. Andy, the well known chef from the City Lodge, is the resident chef so good food available.

I know a couple of regulars not around this Saturday, but gives others a chance to do the talking! All welcome, new and old.

See you there!

Arsenal don't play till next day, so should be quiet.

Good reference point is the VW garage. If you drive past it, same side, you've just gone 100 meters to far.

For information of long time Udonthani ex-pats, this venue was previously "Harrys Bar" for at least a couple of decades!
The (comparatively) new owner, Chris, is carrying on in the best of Harrys traditions, and he has snagged Andy to do the cooking; so things can't really get much better than that :D  \:D/.

Note: In case you cannot recognise him, Andy is the gentleman :-s with the new fashionable haircut and sexy NHS glasses, specially imported from the UK \:D/

Yes, got the free food. i haven't decided where we will meet next - I am open to offers - I don't mind, I'm just filling in, but you have to turn up! But basically, to few care, prefer there own little groups, or possibly afraid of meeting another keyboard commando adversary.

It is a thankless task Rick & one that it is virtually impossible to please everyone (Anyone ?? ) on..

Personally I think that you did it the best possible way - decide on a venue & time, publish it & then turn up & enjoy. In the rare eventuality that not another soul turns up at least you will have had a different night out.

Hats off to you for the attempt, nothing ventured, nothing gained..

Rick . As one of the oldest of the old fogies on the forum may I say. I think some may be the same as me . I don't go out much in the evening, especially to pubs, mainly because of the drink driving thing, but to be brutally honest, also due to my age, I'm in bed by nine. But I would be amiable to a mid week lunchtime rendezvous with a few like minded souls at a place similar to Steve's, that serves a decent meal in a sociable atmosphere or somewhere like CC where you can just enjoy a nice pint .But I'm afraid you may find that like me, many will avoid nights and weekends .
Just my thoughts.
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

Well, we have started avoiding nights - we have held the last few meetings in the afternoon, to allow for those who do not want to drive later in the evening - which i think is a concern to some of us some what younger ones as well, due to the number of vehicles and poor light. Also trying to avoid locations in centre of town also. But if there is support, we could arrange, say, a thursday lunch meeting once a month?

I'd maybe drop by if held in the afternoon. Nights are just full of opportunity and trouble here in LOS, IMO. I'd love for any of my forum nemises to also be there. Perhaps share some lemonade or iced tea. It would be even better if there were some activities to do while there. Sitting around just chatting it up for hours has its limits...

Having been to a few ex pat meet ups in the past for me a night meet. OK the older 1s don't have to drink lots but a bit of music wouldn't go amiss nor would a few females either wags or whatever. The meets in the older days were spoiled by personal indifferences and would in my opinion would still be going strong if not for that reason. An afternoon meet up might as well be held in the complex at the pizza hut maybe a day when the shopping is done. No for me, a meet up is a good drink chat and a jolly good time with ALL of your friends its only once a month.

About 6 years ago when Lee had Udonmap and the forum started to take off, some of us used to meet at various sponsors venues.

My thoughts are in harmony with Rick & Trubrit on this topic.

Based on past experiences over many years, Steve & Malee would seem to be the ideal, (permanent?), hosts. :D Their bar is situated in the ideal location, (i.e. out of town, in a quiet area & easily accessible); they control the nature and the VOLME of the music, which they normally consider a secondary consideration to the ability of their customers to communicate with ease when wanting to talk and be heard by their companions, and their well balanced reasonably priced menu, for those wanting sustanance, has stood the test of time.

Most importantly, given their Udonthani history and reputatuion for sincerity and integrity, I am sure also that they could be relied upon not selfishly to seize the opportunity to bring all their powers to bear to make it a commercially successful venture for their personal benefit, without the slightest interest in the purpose of this concept.

Long termers will remember this situation is precisely what occurred when this same idea was put forward, not so very long ago, by the owner of a local , very ethnic oriented, restauranteur, whose sole purpose was personal profit, and which resulted in some unpleasantness and, fortunately. the very quick demise of this particular marketting venture of his. Awareness of that danger would need to be maintained, as also would there need to be continuing vigilance to ensure that the event does not become dominated by any one ethnic group,( as is happening in other areas of ex-pat life in Udonthani), but remain truly international in nature. So NO COMMITTEES [-o< :-s :D , just leave matters in the sincere and capable hands of Rick, arming him with the certain knowledge there will always be available to him plenty of willing volunteers to provide help when he needs it.

A Wednesday or Thursday meeting at say between 1430- 1700hrs would seem to fall in with the ideas of most members. Such an event would also provide an opportunity for those who have forgotten the art and beauty of communicating verbally with others, to rekindle the skill and pleasure that would bring; not to mention providing the pathway to ,( much needed :( ), better communication and understanding between us ex-pats.

For that reason I personally feel KDs idea of providing some form of entertainment would detract, not add to, the purpose & enjoyment of such an event. In fact, given the wide range of personalities such an event would be likely to attract, finding something to suit all tastes could provide an unnecessary problem. But then I think the event should be for ADULTS ONLY ( proud parents needing to put their children on display and to share the pleasures of parenthood with others of like mind could organise their own seperate event [-o< =D> \:D/ ), so what do I know. :-" ;) Anyway these minor, but important matters, could be voted upon at the first meeting, to test the majority view.

Ok, that time again. Location for this saturday's meetup is the T bar (Steve and Mali's place), 3 pm. Everybody welcome. Can discuss other options for those who would like a lunchtime meetup during the week. I'm not to keen on a lunch meet as tend to not eat Lunch, but happy for someone else to take that forward.

This is just an informal do, nothing to do with the expat club. Not a heavy drinking bout either, just an informal chance to meet other expats (or anyone else) who comes along. Buy food if you want, or not. Stay as long as you want.
