Just look at how gorgeous this lake looks! https://www.google.co.th/search?q=bua+d ... CAcQ_AUoAg And it's somewhere outside Udon!
Anyone able to tell us where it is? How long does it take to get there? Can we hire boats this year?- someone said yes, someone said no. Is there a hotel there to stay overnite so we won't have to get up so early? Anything else of interest on the way? Thanks!

Went Sunday. It was crowded. Best to go on a weekday. Next month is the best month. Just after dawn is the best time. It takes about 40 minutes to get there. Each year there are less flowers, I assume because of the increased traffic. There are 81 boats plying the trade. 300 baht for a boat.

Yes. There is a tour company in UD Town which has that service. Don't know their name. Their shop or booth is near Starbucks. Other tour companies probably offer this service.the-monk wrote:Is there any mini-van, buses from Udon ?

dress for the cooler weather and the wind factor particularly if you go earlier in the day... I had a Swedish friend last year who pooh-poohed it and regretted it the whole boat ride as he suffered in short sleeves and a 20 kilometer wind whipping around us...

It is beautiful and worth a visit, yes. Its about 40 mins by car from Udon but, a relatively long way from bus/songthaew routes so difficult unless you arrange your own transport. There's not a lot else in the vicinity but, if monkeys float your boat, go into Kumphawapi and see the monkey park. Nearest hotel probably KP near Kumphawapi station but, again, from here, you need your own transport.

This year they even offer a flat rate for a guided tour.
Please wear suitable clothing when attending a concert in Udon Thani. Slacks and short-sleeved shirts are ok, shorts, tank tops or muscle shirts are not.

Yesterday I saw advertisements for the guided tour for 499 Baht p.p. again. But they said: You should meet in UD Town at 7:00 in the morning. Not especially early as most khon Isaan traditionally stand up between 5 and 6 in the morning.
The boats do not sale booze though. Better bring Your own bottles.
